CAn anyone tell me whether in the 1850's you needed to emigrate from Ireland to the UK, i.e with all the correct documentation and passports etc, if so is there a registry of immigrants from Ireland anywhere, or could anyone from Ireland just be free to enter and stay in the UK? Many thanks

Ireland was part of U.K. so there were no records kept of people travelling from Ireland to Scotland, England and Wales.

"The UK" was the "United Kingdom of Great Britain & Ireland" from the Act of Union in 1801 until Irish Independence and today is "United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland"
The flag you have, the Union Jack, was different before 1801, when it was altered to incorporate the cross of St Patrick (the diagonal red cross on the Union JacK)
