I am trying to research my wife's Grandparents. I have found they were married in Queensland in 1915 from Qld BDM but can not locate their births on the Qld web site.
If I purchase a copy of their Marriage Certificate will this show their full particulars DOB and parents details?
I have been informed that Jane Murray had a sister - Annie Murray who married James V Williams which I have located on NSW BDM as being married in 1920 in Murwillambah NSW.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Cando for the link.
I will order the Marriage Certificate to obtain the information required.
If my suspicion is correct in that they were both born in the UK- Scotland the most probable ( I can not find them on either NSW or QLD BDM ), can you please advise the best site to search further for their family connections?
Your help is much appreciated.

the 1949 electoral roll
KEnnedy James, Tarragindi Road, Tarragindi postal worker
Kennedy Jane Tarragindi Road, Tarragindi home duties
Kennedy Beresford Francis same address sheet metal worker
Kennedy Ellen Kennedy same address home duties
unfortunately not together in 1954 so very hard to find James and Jane if they were still living then
Beresford and Clair, living at 63 Sydney Road, Camp Hill, he is an electrical assistant and she of course is home duties
Jenn

Thanks Jenn
The Tarragindi Road address was the family home until Grandma Jane passed away some time in the late 70's early 80's James was still alive in 1968 as we have photograph dated Sept 1968 taken by Bruce Devine Photography, Murwillumbah NSW. We know Jane had a sister Annie (DOB 1885?) that was married to a James V Williams in 1920 in Murwllimbah NSW. We also have an undated photograph of the family taken by Roy Cooper Studios, Brisbane with both James and Jane , the three sons and daughter ( Beryl May ). We also have a family photograph we believe to be that of Jame's - both parents, four males and two females, one male being much younger ( early teens) the other males appear to be in their 20's , taken by W E Perrour Longreach QLD. Unfortunately there is no date or names.
Thanks for Berresford's military records, we have previously located these.
When I obtain Jame's and Jane's wedding certificate thing might fall into place.
Thanks for your help.
Jack
PS How is sunny Townsville. We have lived there on two separate occasions. Second daughter born there.

Jenn
Forgot to comment on Ellen Kennedy. We have no knowledge of her. May be the mother of James ?
Might be coincidence but one of Beresford's daughters second christian name is Ellen.
Jack
-
Sorry Jack
my mistake that should read Clair Ellen Kennedy , Beresford's wife?
Do you know if James and Jane passed away in Brisbane?
Jenn
-
Yes, both passed away in Brisbane while residing at Tarragindi Road address.
Jack
-
And yes, Claire Ellen was Bereford,s wife ( my wife.s mother )

Hi all,
Have now received a copy of Marriage Certificate. James Kennedy and Jane Murray Married 10/06/1915 at residence of Mr. Charles Millis, Nanango Qld.
James Kennedy - Birthplace - Rockhamton Qld Age 23 Usual address Kingaroy Qld.
Parents - Robert Kennedy and Mary Niven.
Jane Murray - Birthplace - Missiboddi, Bourairlle, New South Wales. Age 19. Usual address , Nanango Qld.
Parents - Francis Murray (Deceased) and Elizabeth Thompson
Witnesses - Frank Murray and Annie Alice Murray.
I can find James' record of birth on Qld BDM index but can not find Jane's birth on NSW BDM or a marriage of
Francis Murray and Elizabeth Thompson on either Qld or NSW BDM.
I have googled Missibotti an Bourairlle which came up blank. Are these fictitous place names or recorded incorreclty?
Can any one help solve this little puzzle?

Jane Murray - Birthplace - Missiboddi, Bourairlle, New South Wales
Missiboddi, Bourairlle = Missabotti, Bowraville NSW

Jane's Birth:
MURRY JANE b. 1896 BOWRAVILLE #20122
Parents: FRANCIS & ELISY
-
well found there Merlin
there a re a number of children born in the same area to Francis and Elizabeth Murray/Murry/Murry.
There is a death that might be relevant
Francis Murray died 1903 at Bowraville NSW REG no 5343
there is also the death in Qld of Francis Murray with the parents listed as Francis Murray and Elizabeth Thompson, no doubt a brother who was perhaps the witness at Jane's Wedding.
In 1881 on the Devon there is an entry for Francis Murray aged 25 and Elizabeth Murray aged As they are unassisted passengers there is nothing more on them.
However I did find this marriage
on the same page
Francis Murray and Elizabeth Thompson at Wharfedale Yorkshire 1880
Jenn

Thank you Merlin, you surely are the magician.
And a BIG thank you all that have assisted especially Jenn for all your previous work, you are a Gem!
I am sure I will be back seeking further assistance. I am now going to concentrate on my side of the family for a while which is South Australian based.
Kind regards
Jacko

From digitised Passenger List at NSW State Records:-
Ship "Devon" Departed Plymouth 12/12/1880
Arrived Sydney 28/03/1881
MURRAY, Francis, 25, Laborer (sic) Fermanagh, RC
Murray, Elizabeth, 22, wife, Lancashire.
I have ordered the death certificate of Francis from which I hope I can confirm the marriage of 1880 in Wharfedale, West Riding, Yorkshire which is adjoining Lancashire County is my Francis and Elizabeth.
-
Well hopefully the death certificate will prove to be the correct one
I just had a look at the shipping record and Francis Murray has his mother as Mary Murray no fathers name shown
Elizabeth has her parents as James and Mary Thompson
kind thoughts

Have finally received NSW death registration transcription of Francis Murray.
D.O.D 14 may 1903 Bowraville NSW
Farmer aged - 49
Place of Birth - Innes Killen (sic) Ireland
Time in Aust Colonies - 23years NSW
Fathers name - Francis Murray
Mother - Mary Barry
Place of Marriage - Ilkey, Ireland (Transcribers note; Place of Marriage clearly recorded)
Age at Marriage- 25
Spouse - Elizabeth Thompson
Children - Mary A 19, Rose 17, Isabelle 15, Travers 13, Annie A 11, James W 9, Jane 6, living, 2 males Deceased.
Informant - John O'Donnell, Nephew, Bowraville NSW
Queries: Can not find Birth of Rose on NSW BMD. Travers I believe to be Francis #25667/1889. Annie A on NSW index is listed as Arinda, wrongly transcribed? Can only find one death, Charles J #19623/1898 - #841/1899. Any reason the nephew was the informant and not the wife?
Are these the same couple that came out on the Devon in 1881?
Also can not find the death of Elizabeth Murray (Thompson) in NSW or Qld.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Jack
the death certificate has helped you along a bit
where does it say he Francis Murray was buried??
It is possible the Elizabeth Murray nee Thompson may have remarried.
Interesting that his nephew was the informant...h may not hace clear knowledge of where the couple did marry.
If you are willing to buy the birth certificate of one of the chuldren this should also where and when the couple married.
Also a nephew...so more of his family came out to Australia more family to find.
Also noted no mention of Jane on the death certificate????????

Hi Jenn
Francis Murray is buried at Bowraville cemetery. Minister was Father Sheehan, Roman Catholic which indicates he was Roman Catholic and would be in the Catholic section, if his cemetery is segregated.
Francis died of Brights disease, pneumonia, perhaps Elizabeth was ill as well, so the nephew supplied the details.
My thoughts also that Elizabeth may have remarried. On Jane's marriage certificate (1915) only her father is noted as being deceased. As Francis the son and Annie are listed as witnesses at the marriage may be the family moved to the Nanango Qld area. It was a timber district in those days.
How do you search when a woman gets remarried, enter the current married name or the maiden name?
Jane is listed on the death certificate aged 6. ( just before living ;D )
My thoughts also re copy of birth certificate. Will order Jane's as she is the direct descendant.
Will try and find more info on nephew to see if he belongs to the Murray or Thompson side of the family.
Kind Regards
Jack

It appears John O'Donnell's mother was a Murray.
Birth - John O'Donnell 9942/1866 Macleay River NSW.
Father -John O'Donnell - Mother - Rose Murray.
Marriage - John O'Donnell - Rose Murray 745/1861 Sydney NSW
The most prominent town is South West Rocks at the mouth of the river with Kempsey now days being the main local government centre. It is not a great distance (60-70 km.) from this area to Bowraville.
I have ordered the birth certificate of Jane ,which is transcribed in the NSW birth index as MURRY.
Is there any way of looking up the parents names of Rose O;Donnell/Murray with out purchasing a certificate?
Jack

Birth Transcription of Jane Murray (recorded as Murry on Index and Register) finally received.
D.ob. 25/05/1896
Father: Francis Murray - aged 43, born Fernanagh, Ireland
Mother : Elisy Thompson - aged 40, born Bernely, England (Transcribers note , clearly recorded as Bernely )
Married 24/05/1879, Midland Lodge, Ilkey, England.
Informant - Father, Francis Murry (also mispelt).
Also list siblings which match up with those found on NSW BMD Index.
I believe Bernely to be Burnley,, Lancashire.
Jenn,
The ships passenger list for the Devon in 1881 appears correct but the marriage in Wharfedale, Yorkshire in 1880 does not appear to be them.
The only thing now is I still can not find the death of Elizabeth ( Elizy) Murray ( Murry) in either NSW or Qld.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
-
I now believe the marriage in Wharfedale is in fact that of my Francis and Elizabeth as suggested by Jenn, ref #Wharferb/8/75 . Old maps show Burnley is in the Wharfedale District which is close to Leeds.
I also believe Elizabeth was baptised at St Peters, Leeds 1858 ref #CE46/53/428 and parents are James Thompson and Mary King ( which match up with shipping records).
I now have the birth details of James Kennedy with his parents being Robert Kennedy, Belfast, Co. Antrim, Ireland and Mary Niven, Daly, Ayrshire, Scotland.
The only missing link is finding the death of Elizabeth Murray (nee Thompson) which I shall pursue at a later date.
A BIG thank you to all that have assisted is this search.
Kind regards to all.

I did note with interest that the wedding of James KEnnedy and Jane Murray was held at the residence of Charles Millis.
So thought there might be a clue there to Elizabeth's whereabouts
NO not Elizabeth but Rose, Jane's sister
marriage details in Qld
reg no 1913/C2366
groom Millis Charles William
bride Murray Rose
upon Rose Millis death the details of her parents confirm her as Jane's sister.

Thank you Jenn for this information.
I hope to get up to Brisbane next year and go and talk the last of Jame's and Jane's childred to see if she can remember anything of her Grandmother.
Kind Regards
