Would it be possible for someone who has access to the South Australian death indices to check to see if the death of
William (Robert) Pruden
was registered in South Australia, in the time between late 1928 and mid 1929?
The background is that William is a g grandfather of mine. He apparently died en route from England to Australia and was buried, according to family legend, at Port Pirie. I think the ship on which he was traveling was the Narkunda, having left London in November 1928..
There are some mysteries - I can't find his name in any of the SA cemetery lists, and why would a ship from London en route to Sydney stop at Port Pirie anyway (it seems a bit "out of the way")
Many thanks

Hello Phill,
William Robert PRUDEN aged 64 of Weymouth (ENG) died on 26th December 1928 at Semaphore.
No relatives listed.
Ref = PtA H 509/215
So this indicates he died in hospital and Semaphore is suburban Adelaide.....very close to Port Adelaide.

Dear Dee,
Many thanks - and that was super quick! (I was just about to retire for the night and decided to check the email - and found your reply)
That clears up another (inaccurate) family legend and I will now be able to order the certificate.
Interesting that no relatives were listed, as he was apparently on his way to join his son and daughter in NSW.
Many thanks again

Many thanks Cando - that is interesting that it is possible to get transcriptions. As it happened have already ordered a certificate (and noted the expense!) - I was so excited about getting the certificate details I ordered one immediately.
