Title: RC Christenings Salford c. 1850
Post by: inchamore on Friday 12 March 10 10:51 GMT (UK)
Anyone know if there is anywhere to locate baptisms for the salford area.  Im hqving no luck tracing a birth for John Donovan c 1848  Im sure the answer is down to a mispelling of the surname.  Would like therefore to trace the baptism, would be grateful for any info.  Thanks

Thanks Migky but have tried all the usual routes, did find a John Dinnagan on free bmd but probably a long shot.  Have been looking for years did find his marriage and the spelling was "Donniving" its driving me nuts at this stage!  thanks again :)

Hi, :)

Manchester Library has microfilms of some Salford Churches of baptisms.

Do you have an address of the family and religion?  These can narrow it down for searching, address is good as you can check to see what churches are in that area.

I'm visiting library and can take a look, if you can narrow it down I will check on either side of about year of date of birth.

Thanks Cancan I believe the baptism would be around 1848 and the family were roman catholic, they lived in the Salford area up until the 1900's . John Donovan lists born in Salford on all the census's from 1871 onwards.  Thanks again for having a look for me.

Hi

I guess you've looked here, and the only one that fits,  died age one.

Chances are then it's an RC church not coered.  Also though, do you know the mother's maiden name?  Could have been registered under that.

Have you got a ensus? Siblings might give clues.
Just a few thoughts.

Best  wishes

There was a John Bary Donevan baptised at St Patrick's Catholic Church, Livesey Street, Manchester on 8th September 1850, the mother's maiden name was Bary [possibly a mishearing of Berry?]

Can't find any likely candidates at either St Mary's Mulberry Street or St Anne's Junction Street.

Hi

I missed that one.  Well noticed!

There's a John Dunavin aged 2 in 1851 at Middleton, with parents, John and Mary, 39 and 36, b Liiverpool and Middleton resp., John a dyer.

Also siblings, Thomas15, Hannah 13 b Leith, and Mart5ha 9, Mar5y 6, bot5h b Middleton.

Any chance it's yours?

Best wishes
