Post by: woodshorn on Thursday 11 March 10 23:30 GMT (UK)
I have a Anna, Janet, John, Jean, Hugh and Margaret Maiklam born Tarbolton 1807 -1812. Can anyone tell me anything about their father James Maiklam born about 1801 and married to Janet Campbell in Tarbolton. I don't think he wa born in Tarbolton

Hi Carolyn, :)

Children to James Maiklam/Maitland/Macklane & Janet Campbell, all bapt. Tarbolton:

Ann Maiklam, bapt. 28th April 1807
Janet Maiklam, bapt. 25th September 1808
Hugh Maiklam, bapt. 7th January 1810
Jean Maiklam, bapt. 20th October 1816
Janet Maitland, bapt. 6th December 1818
Elisabeth Maitland, bapt. 10th February 1821
Helen Macklane, bapt. 1st December 1822

Have you tried their marriage on SP? The image might mention if James was of Tarbolton parish (although that doesn't mean he was born there) or another.

1841:

Address: Kile Alley, Tarbolton
James Maklam, m, 60, wright, b. outside county
Janet Maklam, f, 60, -, b. in county
Janet Maklam, f, 20, embroiderer, b. in county
Helen Maklam, f, 20, embroiderer, b. in county
James Borland, m, 4, -, b. in county

While searching, I also came across a Duncan Macklam who stayed at nearby Catrine. He was married to a Marion Kerr and was born c. 1781 in Drummond (according to the 1851 census). Duncan lived until 1867 aged about 90 (b. c. 1777). The death certificate gives his parents as Duncan Macklam, -, (deceased) and - Macklam m.s. Mitchell (deceased). Possibly a brother to James?
