Title: Cameron's/Paxton's in Chirnside
Post by: Angela Burns on Wednesday 10 March 10 15:26 GMT (UK)
Does anyone have a copy of the Banns of Marriage for Chirnside that would be around 1788-89 that has John Cameron and a Jane or Janet Paxton listed?  If so I would love to have a copy!   Thanks...

Hi Pat...The only Paxton's I can find are Jane/Jean/Janet Paxton (all one in the same person)who married the said John Cameron.  I believe her father is John Paxton who died in Chirnside on 19.2.1819 and wife Margaret Dods who died 11.11.1779.  I haven't any other information at all on the Paxton's.  I don't even know if my Paxton's are originally from Chirnside.  I do know that the Banns of Marriage that I am looking for stated that the Jane was from Chirnside and that the John Cameron was from somewhere else and that is one of the things I am trying to find out (I was told that by the person who was going to send me the copy but for some reason hasn't to date.)

Ev...what is an IGI...still new to this and don't know the abbreviations yet.  Is there any other information on that source about the marriage, places, parents, witness's etc???

Hi Dawn10!  So far, I don't have any Paxtons from Chirnside, however, that is fairly close to an area that is actually called Paxton, so there will probably be more! Some of my Paxtons operated an inn called Velvet Hall in the Norham area.  If you ever see a connection, please be sure to contact me!  (The IGI is an abbreviation for the International Genealogical Index which is one part of www.familysearch.org which you can access for free and check on a lot of ancestors. Just remember there are two aspects to the IGI: member submitted (sometimes iffy  :-\  ) AND extracted record which are normally more reliable  ;D )  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask, as that is what Rootschat is all about -- helping others!  Happy hunting!  ;D Pat

If you go to Scotlands People, you can buy a copy of the register entry now that you have the date of the marriage.
Remember that entries were not standardized, it depended on the whim of the Minister/Clerk. I've seen entries where the parents were names, and others that were minimalist to the point where one entry doesn't even give the Bride's name!
