Hi!!
Rachel Unthank married Robert Pursglove at the Scarborough Anglican Church on 18 Feb 1739.
However, to my knowledge BOTH these people were Quakers, so I am a little perplexed as to why they have married in an Anglican church....BUT! I am hoping someone might be able to check the PR's for me please to find:
Their marriage entry- hoping something on it might help to confirm I am looking at the right couple!
And also baptisms for both of them prior to the marriage- as I gather they would have had to be baptised into the anglican faith before the marriage could take place...and again hoping something in those entries might be helpful!!
Many thanks to anyone who would be kind enough to take the time for me!

Up until the marriage act of 1753 everybody had to marry in the Anglican church. It was not legal otherwise. After 1753 Quaker and Jewish marriages were recognised as legal though other non conformist groups were still not allowed to conduct marriages.
Can't help with the parish register I'm afraid. You can always order it to look at in your local LDS family history centre if you don't get a response here.

Hoping someone here can help with access to the PR's as I dont have a local LDS easily accessable.
Thanks again!

Hi Clive
Thanks so much- really appreciate it. Were there any witnesses recorded in the transcript? Or any baptisms for either Robert of Rachael? I have been told they would have had to be baptised prior to the marriage as they were Quakers- and could not marry in their own church at the time.
Will check out the Danby PR's online- thanks for the tip there.
Look forward to hearing if there is any sign of Robert in Whitby- I think his parents were Robert Purseglove and Rebekah Sanderson.
Cheers!

HI Clive
Thanks for looking for me- I have my fingers crossed you will find something to confirm my assumptions!
As for the earlier Pursgloves- I would be really interested in anything you have found. I suspect Robert Pursglove, who I believe married Rachel Unthank, was the son of Robert Pursglove Snr of Whitby and Rebekah Sanderson of Yatton- they were married in Whitby in 1705.
Robert and Rebekah had 5 children I am aware of: Robert Jnr, Sarah, Rebekah, Joseph and Rachel. Robert Snr died in Whitby 1725 and Rebekah in 1735.
Robert Snr's father was Robert Pursglove of Roxby- wife unknown.
I really think this is the family from which I am decended- but I am trying to find proof of the connection between these later generations and the earlier ones- which is where I am hoping you might find something!!
So fingers crossed- look forward to hearing from you and thanks again!!
