Hi,
I have been trying to find a number of people in the 1891 census with no success. I have previously posted looking for Benjamin and Sylvester (female) Jones with no joy. I was looking, in particular, for Sylvester's mother Naomi Thomas. I have recently found out that she re-married prior to 1891. Her husband was Mark English. I have searched for them with no success. I think that they were living close to one another. In 1881 Noami and Sylvester were in Brithdir and in 1884 Noami and Mark were married in Cwmsyfiog. Naomi died in 1898 and Mark is on the 1901 census.
Were there any districts missing in this area from the 1891 census?

Thanks Rah1980 for the information on missing census entries. It is a mystery to me why these families were missing on census night in 1891.

This may not be very helpful, but I lost a whole family in 1891 but eventually found them listed under some totally bizarre mis-spellings by the enumerator coupled with mis-readings of the enumerator's handwriting. Luckily for me, one of the female family members had a relatively uncommon name (Edith) and I knew her date and place of birth. By trawling through all the Ediths in Glamorgan born in the right year I finally found her visiting an aunt with the rest of her family visiting nearby under a different set of mis-spelled and mis-read names. Naomi is not all that common a name, and less likely to be affected by clerical errors than Sylvester, so a similar approach might be worthwhile. I daresay you've already tried this.

Thanks for the suggestion. We've had to do this in the past to find Naomi. We have looked through the returns for 1891 for Naomi Thomas, but keeping an eye out for Benjamin and Sylvester (as she is normally easiest to spot) with no joy. We have tried various sites in case the record was mistranscribed, but no joy. I have tried wild card searches and searching for Naomi, no surname, with her birth date. Unfortunately with the information we have found that could be any time between 1837 and 1843. She has been a bit of a challange and has not made things easy.
