Title: Nenagh Donohoes
Post by: Grodling on Tuesday 09 March 10 17:00 GMT (UK)
Slater’s Directory 1846 for Nenagh shows the following Donohoe’s in business:
John Donohoe - Baker & Publican at 61 Castle St & 45 Castle St.
Michael Donohoe – Baker at 45 Castle St
Michael Donohoe  [the same as above?] – Hat Maker at Dublin Rd
Thomas Donohoe – Stone Mason & Cutter at 4 Summer Hill
Margaret Donohoe – China & Glass at 104 Pound St.
James Donohoe – Tailor at 50 Pound St.
Patrick Donohoe living at 60 Summer Hill about this time.
Does anyone know how these people are related – wives, parents?
I would be interested to know.

1. 17 of them in Nenagh in Griffiths (http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&Submit.x=53&Submit.y=7&Submit=Submit&familyname=Donohoe&firstname=First+Name&baronyname=&countyname=TIPPERARY%2C+NORTH+RIDING&unionname=&parishname=NENAGH)

2. IFHF claim to have for Nenagh
(Baptisms Start Jan. 1792, gap 1810-30, 1843-44, continuous from 1845. Marriages start Jan. 1792, gap mid 1797-1818, continuous from 1819)

3.  I see you had this thread about Patrick Donohoe VC  (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=untr8toq5namsg5pj7jmidor94&topic=438894.0)

There is stuff about Patrick Frank Donohoe, a miller's son from Nenagh. lived 1840 to 1909  on this link  (http://www.odonoghue.co.uk/dphorum/read.php?1,1742,1770)

I would be quite wary about that thread, a lot of it is hearsay/supposition

Thanks Corisande. I was aware of the Griffiths information and the O'Donoghue forum and yes I did post re PD VC. However it gets me no where! I would have thought that someone out there might have a tree that included some of these Donohoes! The PD VC was a wildcard who in all probability would have been related to the Patrick Donohoe I am looking for. I find it particularly strange that no one has claimed links to PD VC - no parents or siblings. The search goes on....!

My Patrick Frank Donohoe 1840-1909 joined the army in 1858 in Nenagh - this from his service record. Family folklore says he came from Nenagh but after quite a few years I have found nothing to substantiate this as fact. When he married in Winchester the marriage certificate shows his father as Patrick Donohoe, a mercantile clerk, deceased. I am still searching for his parents and siblings without success.

Has anyone access to Nenagh Parish Registers who could look up Patrick Frank Donohoe's baptism record? From his service record it states that he was born in Nenagh Parish in Nenagh town [Apr 1840] He joined the army [46th Foot] in Templemore 31 Dec 1857. Hopefully this will show Patrick's parents - my on going brick wall! Thank you.

My own Donoghues are from Belvue, formerly Kilbarron, formerly Lisquillibeen, and formerly Lisboney, just to the East of Nenagh. If any info on these is of any use, do get in touch!

I descend from Patrick Donohoe who married Amelia Hallett.  I wonder if his parents were Patrick Donohoe & Mary Gleeson who had 3 children: Honor, bapt Oranmore, Co Galway June 1834, Mary bapt Sept 1837 Oranmore, Co Galway & Patrick bapt 1841 Nenagh (88km away)
I can't find a marriage for Patrick & Mary in Ireland.

Thanks 8clopton for your input. I am sorry that I have only just seen this. I was told that Mary Gleeson could be PD's spouse some years ago by a poster in Australia but I have never been able to confirm. Galway and Limerick are possible places that a mercantile clerk might operate from. Maybe Mary was from Nenagh. I would be pleased to hear of any other information you might have on this line.
