Hi
I'm really interested in finding out more information on Walter Andrew Cheney born c1889 in St Helier, Jersey. On the 1901 census he appear as an orphan and died in 1915. I have been told it was of pnuemonia but have also been told his death is still being investigated as he died during WW1 and was serving in the 3rd Bn Royal Militia of the Island of Jersey.
Anyone help me please

Hi Andy
I've recently completed a project to index Jersey Hero's from WW1. I'll have a look and see if his name is on the list and what details are available.

Hi Andy
WAC isn't on the "heroes" list. This just means that he didn't receive any notable medals etc.
However, he is on the "Jersey Roll of Honour". Corporal Walter Andrew Cheney, born St Helier and serving in the 3rd RMIJ (Royal Irish Rifles), died 7th Feb 1915. There are no other details in that record.
There is a Walter Cheney in the St Helier death index, Feb 1914 to Feb 1916, volume 48, page 49. Do you have the certificate? I can go and have a look at it to see how he died.
There are also records of the Roll of Honour kept at the Archive which I can look at.
