Sorry - it's difficult to understand your post as it has no punctuation separating the various parts.

Do I have this right?

Your grandfather was called John Morris but was also John Edward Morris known as Ted

Your grandfathers uncle was James Morris from Llansilin who was running a smithy in 1910 in Llansantffraid and was also a verger and choirmaster

His son was Gruffudd Allan Morris who continued running the smithy until 1960

For us to help fill in any gaps you need to supply more info as follows:

When and where was John/John Edward Morris born

What year was his uncle,  James Morris the smithy,  born

When and where was Gruffudd Allan Morris born

If James was running the smithy in 1910 - have you checked the 1911 census for info on him at that time

If John/John Edward Morris was born pre-1911 - what info do you have from the 1911 census about him or his family

seems i have to say I'm sorry to you 1 for putting my post on twice
and 2 for not getting my punctuation  right
John Morris snr born 1849

James Morris about 1879
John Edward Morris 1903
do not know when Gruffed Allan Morris was born
and yes i have been on 1911 census as that is how i found out the address

Hi Glyn

I think you've been looking for this family for a while now. I remember that there were a few problems because they lived in areas that were covered by Oswestry, Llanfyllin and Corwen Registration Districts.

I'll have a read through the old threads to refresh my memory and get back to you.

Where were these Morrises in 1911?

Hi again Glyn

I've just been reading the first of your threads from last year  :)

Did you get the marriage cert of John Edward's grandparents in 1877? This should give you John Morris (b.c. 1850)'s father's name and occupation and his wife Elizabeth's maiden name.

John Morris (grandfather) was born Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant circa 1850.

On the 1851, there are two possible John Morris, b. Llanrhaeadr in 1850:

HO107/2499/660/33 - Turn pike Gate, Castellmoch.
Parents - Gomer and Elizabeth

and

HO107/2499/ 589/8 - Market Street, Llanrhaeadr
Parents - John and Margaret

I think that this is the Uncle James, aged 2 in 1881:

Bodlith, Llansilin
RG11/2656/24/1

Morris

John, 32, ag lab, b. Llanrhaeadr
Elizabeth, 31, b. Merionethshire, Cynwyd
Mary, 4, b. Denbighshire, Llanarmon
James. 2. b. -do-

Llanarmon and Llansilin are only a few miles apart

PS - does this link in to your Pont y Meibion query, as P y M is just outside Llanarmon?

I see from this message:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,390518.msg2620606.html#msg2620606

that John Morris (1850)'s father was Gomer.

Glyn, I'm not sure what you are wanting now as we've done most of it before in the two threads of last May and June  :-\

Marriage between Gomer Morris and Elizabeth Jones, Dec quarter 1849, Llanfyllin, vol 27 page 149

These will be John Morris (1850)'s parents and Elizabeth Morris and James Morris's grandparents and Ted's great grandparents and your great great great grandparents.

I'm just  throwing out odds and ends of info now  ???

In 1891, James was working with David Davies in Corwen:

RG13/5247/83/9

Melin Rug Smithy, Corwen

James Morris, servant, single, 22, Blacksmith b. Tregeiriog, Denbighshire.

Tregeiriog and t Pont y Meibion are very close - between Glyn Ceiriog and Llanarmon

 :D

Just found James - he's in  Llansantffraid Glyndyfrdwy near Corwen, Merionethshire. Luckily, I still have some  Welsh.

No sign of Gruffydd (alternative spellings) on the  1911 free index.

More success on the North Wales BMD

I think I've given you as much as there is now - James born Tregeiriog/Llanarmon not Llansilin, where he lmoved at a young age.   Griffith born Corwen RD, 1916 - probably (Llansantffraid) Glyndyfrdwy

Is there anymore that you want?
