Title: Thomas North
Post by: Hatster on Monday 08 March 10 15:53 GMT (UK)
Whilst helping a friend with some family research into the North Family, we visited a burial ground in the churchyard at Barton le Street.  Found there the gravestone of Thomas North of South Holme who died in 1825 aged 72 years.  I haven't yet found any family connection with the family we are researching but I would love to know if anyone has any information about Thomas.

Thanks

Hi there

My North family came from Butterwick/Barton le Street also and at the moment I don't believe that Thomas who died 1825 is mine either. However I think he was the son of John North (b 1700 died 1811 - yes - 111yrs old, the death was reported in the York Courant on the 20 May 1811), John was a butcher from South Holme and he  married Elizabeth Marshall in Kirby Misperton in 1733. Thomas North (1753 -1825)  married Easter Spink in 1805, Thomas was a farmer at South Home, Hovingham.

I hope you have better luck with your North tree than I am having!

Thanks for your reply and info!  That's interesting in itself!

I have only just started looking at the North family for my son's in-laws (Norths)  We had a trip to Butterwick etc at the weekend while they were visiting us and when we got back I looked up the family on ancestry - yes I know I should have done that first but I didn't have the information then!

I believe the family we are looking at is, on the 1841 census, David b 1801, his wife Hannah and sons David and John.  I think David may also have been a farmer.  It seems like there should be a link with Thomas - but I have a missing few years at the moment!

Thanks again

I think Thomas may well be linked to your line and going farther back although I can't prove it ( I am stuck with my 3x great grandfather's baptism record in 1794 which does NOT exist) we may end up with the same ancestor. From what I have been given, the name David North descends from the 111yr old John North. Send me a pm with your email address and I can let you have more details.

All the best
