Hi All
Can anyone help me find more information regarding the Rev John Rutherford.
He was living in Swalwell, County Durham and during the years 1778 to at least 1790 his church was Ebeneezer or Ryton Woodside-Presbyterian, Swalwell.
I know that he was married to Mary and I found his death included in the 1807 Monthly Magazine and British Register , Volume 23 which includes facts relative to eminent or remarkable characters recently deceased.
'Died: At Coldstream, the Rev John Rutherford, formerly a protestant dissenting minister at Swalwell, 59'
I'm assuming that he died in 1807 age 59
Any ideas or suggestions will be most welcome.

Hi Anaka,
Not a lot of information in the parish deaths I'm afraid. It just records he was buried the 12th of April 1807 in Coldstream.
It might be best to try the MIs to see if there's any mention of him there.

Can you give me any indication as to which church he was buried?

Hi Anaka,
I can't really give any definite information as I'm not familiar with Coldstream, but I have seen mention of Lennel Churchyard on Google. I assume this may be where all burials of the parish took place. Someone will be to advise better hopefully.

Hi Hume
Your link to Lennel was so interesting - thank you.
I have searched for many years to find the death of Revd. John Rutherford and since his offspring (the children that I know of ) lived and died in Swalwell, County Durham it came as quite a surprise to find that he died in Coldstream. Knowing that he was buried there is another little piece of 'proof'.
Historically the 'borders' is the area that many Rutherford's originated and I know that there is a long line of Revd. John Rutherford's.
