Hi
I'm trying to find out the maiden name of Hannah born 1835 who married a John Ord born 1835. They were living in Longbenton on the 1871 and 1881 censuses and both list birthplace as Northumberland.
I can't find them at all on the 1861 census and on the 1851 John is married.
Their first child James was born 1859.
Thanks,
-
Have you looked for the marriage on http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ ?
Stan

I can't find them at all on the 1861 census
In 1861 they are at RG9/3845/53/23.

Oooh will just go and have a look at that!
Thanks!

Am being dim here but how do you get to them with the number? I can't find anywhere that gives me the option to enter it?

Go into Person search for the relevant census and at the bottom left of the blue box click on census reference search. You will then be linked through to another search box with the opportunity to enter the reference info.
for this one
Piece = 3845
Folio = 53
Page = 23

Thankyou! I've never used the references before.
How did you manage to find them as they've turned from Ord to Bird!
Its definately them though from the names and birth years etc.....
I'd tried every spelling of the name but not bird!

Stan,
Yes i've tried free bmd but only came up with one possible for 1853. I'm not convinced its them as they'd have married at 18 then had a 6 year gap before their children who all followed in fairly quick succession.
The other possible issue is that some Hannah's in the family are really Ann's so I can't work out which marriage could be theirs.

Hi
I'm trying to find out the maiden name of Hannah born 1835 who married a John Ord born 1835.
Thanks,
Wonder if it could be THOMPSON ? As Isabell is not on 1871 census with them
There’s and Isabella ORD age 10 granddaughter with her grandparents
1871 RG10/5117/81/60
Robert THOMPSON Head 55 Kirknewton, Durham Stone Mason
Eleanor wife 60 Earsdon, Durham
John son 24 No ShieldsStone Mason
Margaret HUNTER sister law 70 Newcastle widow formerly dom. Serv.
But there’s a death entry Mar q 1863 ORD Isabella Tynemouth 10b 129
-
Thanks a lot,
I'll have a look at the 1851 and see what they were up to then and if there was a Hannah living with them!!
-
If you get no luck with the marriage what about a birth certificate this would be another way of getting Hannah's maiden name
there's two entries for
James ORD Sep q 1858 Tynemouth 10b 150
James ORD Jun q 1859 Tynemouth 10b 180
and two for
Isabella ORD Sep q 1860 Tynemouth 10b 15_
Isabella ORD Dec q 1861 Tynemouth 10b 138
-
Hi,
I think i may have to do this. One of their younger sons was Samuel which is at least a bit more uncommon and I'm sure I've found his birth in September 1873: ORD Samuel Tynemouth 10b 213.
Thankyou!

Wonder if it could be THOMPSON ? As Isabell is not on 1871 census with them
???
The 1871 I'm looking at for the ORD family does have 10 yr old Isabella at home with them: RG10/5125/59/14.
-
and on the 1851 John is married.
Are you sure? Is he not the 15 yr old at HO107/2411/10/11?
-
Thanks a lot,
I'll have a look at the 1851 and see what they were up to then and if there was a Hannah living with them!!
Maybe a coincidence but on
1851c HO107/2422/577/16
there's a
Hannah THOMPSON 16
Isabella THOMPSON 17
both servants
will take a look at 1841 census to see if there's a Robert, Eleanor, Hannah, Isabella & John THOMPSON together as a family
-
Sorry mistyped in my initial post. It meant to say in 1851 John was unmarried! He was living with his parents aged 15 in Longbenton!!!
-
Might try a different tactic....
Just found a Hannah born about the right time living next door with her dad William and various siblings including an Isabella. All 3 of these names seem to get used quite a lot in later generations so maybe he married the girl next door............need to investigate further though as I'm sure its not that simple!!!
-
???
The 1871 I'm looking at for the ORD family does have 10 yr old Isabella at home with them: RG10/5125/59/14.
Oops typing error 1881 RG11/5096/17/26 :'( When searching James ORD b1859 only 1881, 1901 & 1861 and Birth Jun q 1859 Tynemouth came top of list
-
Thanks for the help on this one. I finally ordered a birth certificate for one of Hannah's children and she was indeed the girl next door!
