Does anybody know of Orriss Trayton Moore?
He married Alice Amelia Wheatley Q2 1899 Eastbourne district.
I am interested in Alice Amelia Wheatley, but the name Orriss Trayton Moore is interesting and I would like to get a birth date and place for him if possible. :)

Hi again
Couln't spot Orriss on the 1881 census when he should have been about 9 or the 1891 - but he is there in 1901 (Dairymans Ass) and born in Billinghurst.
but in 1871 there is a young married couple in Billinghurst as follows
MOORE, Orriss, Head, M, 21, Railway Ganger born Beddingham, Sussex.
MOORE, Sarah A, Wife, F, 26, Northamptonshire.
Looks like it was his parents, just before he was born

Thankyou so for that :)
I also wondered about the names.
Trayton is French for Toll-taker!, source Baby name finder, and Orriss I believe is Italian.

Getting back to Orris...
If you search the National Archives website for Orris Moore in the "this exact wording or phrase" field, you will get a return which demonstrates that an Orris Moore was involved with "piece of land with the chapel buildings and premises erected thereon known as the Tabernacle". This was in connection with the Wesleyan Methodist Chapels.
If you search Google Books for "Orriss Moore" (keeping the quotation marks) there is a snippet view of a book with a reference to this name in Newhaven, connected to "The Railway Mission".

Thankyou once again. :)

Greetings - I'm away from home at present so can't check but I know that Orriss Trayton is also in my Family Tree. 'My' Moores originated from Beddingham, Alciston and Firle. Thank you for the information by those that have acknowledged the original query - I find it very interesting and will post again if I can find anything to add

O.K. I'm home but can't add anything re Wheatley unfortunately. I understand that Orriss and Alice had a son Richard Orriss Trayton Moore born Eastbourne, 1905. Does anyone have further information on him?
