Hello
Can anyone help me trace the Wright Family on the 1851 & 1861 census?
In 1871 they was living in Ruabon, family was:
Thos Wright age 35 born Ruabon Head
Eliz Wright age 27 born Ruabon Wife
Wm Wright age 11 born Ruabon Son
Robt Wright age 9 born Ruabon Son
In 1881 they was living at 10 Burton Terr Ruabon, family was:
Thomas Wright born abt 1838 Erbistock Flintshire Head
Elizabeth Wright born abt 1842 Ruabon Wife
Charles Wright born abt 1872 Ruabon Son
Emily Wright born abt 1875 Ruabon Dau
Harriet Wright born abt 1878 Ruabon Dau
I know there is some inconsistencies with birth places and ages but this seems to be a fairly common thing on the census returns. But i am pretty sure that they are the same family.
Harriet was my great great Grand-mother, she married John Edwards and lived in Oswestry from 1899 onwards.
Look forward to hearing from anyone who can help
Jeannette :)

I have just been looking at Thomas Wright in the 1861 Census,William is just 1 year old.I also found two Marriages for Thomas Wright around this time with a possible Wife Elizabeth. There is a Marriage in Rhosymedre in 1858 of a Thomas Wright and an Elizabeth Parry on the 28th of December 1858.There is also a Marriage in Ruabon in 1860 for a Thomas Wright where a possible Wife is an Elizabeth Griffiths.I am more definite about the Rhosymedre Marriage as I happen to have the Rhosymedre Parish Records for Marriages,as transcribed by the Clwyd FHS,of which I am a member.

Hi. My neighbour and friend is a Wright and has researched the name in the Ruabon area. A great many of them were either blacksmiths or gamekeepers. If you give me the details you have I will pass them on to him (he is not a computer user) and see if anything ties up.

This is what i have of the wright family so far.... but i don't think they was blacksmiths or gamekeepers but i could be mistaken!!
Thomas Wright born 1838c Head
Elizabeth Wright nee Parry born 1842c Ruabon Wife
Children:
William Wright born 1860
Robert Wright born 1862
Charles Wright born 1872
Emily Wright born 1874
Harriet Wright born 1877 (my great great grand-mother)
Phoebe Wright born 1881
Robert married a Mary Kempster (stayed very local to Ruabon / Cefn Mawr area)
I think that Charles passed away in 1881.
I don't know when Thomas or Elizabeth passed away. On the census Thomas only sometimes seems to be at home when the census was taken... so he may have possibly worked away..... i'm assuming he wasn't dead as more children kept appearing on the census!
Please let me know if theie is a connection, as i really don't know much about Harriet's family.
Look forward to hearing from you

Hi. I have seen my neighbour and he thinks that it is possible that Thomas could be his grandfather's brother. I will let you know when I hear more.

Hi Jeanette. Good news! Thomas was the brother of my friend John Wright's grandfather. This means there is quite a list if names to send you and goes back to 1754. Can I suggest that you submit a message to:-
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.britisles.wales.den.general and then I can get your e mail address and send all the details to you in an attachment. If you do not want to do that, I will gladly put all the names on this page. I suppose this means that John Wright is a cousin of some sort to you.

I wonder if the people in this thread are still active.
I am researching a particular WRIGHT family from Ruabon for a couple of reasons the most important being that they are my wifes direct ancestry.
She is related through a Robert Jessie Wright who died in 1932 leaving a trust to his adopted (unofficial) son and then to his granddaughter. This trust failed upon her death and opened up a great can of worms (my second reason for this search). Robert at his death is listed as a coal factor of Ruabon. His will reads that he was of Bryn Ruabon. I have assumed (probably incorrectly) that Bryn is a house name rather than a village.
Robert died 29th Dec 1932.
Robert Was the eldest of 9 children. His parents were Edward Wright and Amelia nee JONES. I believe her father was William.
Roberts siblings were, Isaac, Lemuel, Elizabeth, Edward, John, Mary Winifred (the wifes line) Sarah Jane and William Henry.
From the Will I am aware that Isaac and Lemuel predeceased Robert. Lemuel is listed as deceased on his daughters Wedding cert in 1913 however I cannot find a death that fits this nor can the only other researcher I have found following this line. I believe Lemuel married Elizabeth Willett however this is confused in so much as their daughter Ediths baptism is listed as Elizabeth as mum yet the 1911 census as Lemuel married to a Sarah. Of course this could be one in the same person.
Hopefully this will trigger some information from others who may be searching this name. Of course Wright and Jones are very very common names.
Also if anyone as any links to online directories for the turn of the century to 1914 for Ruabon then I would appreciate those as well

Hi. Could you give birthdates for the siblings
and for Elizabeth do Lemuel.

i think I`ve researched some of this family in the past, but can`t find the records now.
I see what you mean about Lemuel, the Chorlton one looks like a different family.
Even the correct family are confusing .
Births Mar 1863 WRIGHT Lemuel Wrexham
Marriages Jun 1887
Willett Elizabeth West Derby
WRIGHT Lemuel W. Derby
1891 Colliers Row, Weston wrongly transcribed
SAMUEL / Lemuel Wright 28 b North Wales 1863
Sarah E Wright 26 Wife b BAGWORTH, Leicestershire 1865
Edith Wright 11/12 Daughter b Weston
1 WRIGHT, EDITH mmn WILLETT
GRO Reference: 1890 J Quarter in RUNCORN
1901 Pemberton
Lemuel Wright 38 b North Wales, Lefn (Cefn)
Sarah Wright 36 b BAGWORTH, Leicestershire, England
1Edith Wright 11 b Runcorn
2 Amelia A Wright 6 b North Wales, Pentre Morton
Edward C Wright 4 b Pemberton, Cheshire, no birth found with mmn Willett
WRIGHT, AMELIA ANN mn WILLETT
GRO Reference: 1895 M Quarter in WREXHAM
1911 Woolton Lancashire married 23 years 3 children born alive , none died. These details are correct
Lemuel Wright married 48 b Wrexham . Where is Sarah / Elizabeth. All previous census when they are married have POB as BAGWORTH.
Edith Wright 20 b Runcorn
? Mildred A Wright 16 b Wrexham , Is this Amelia. There`s no record of a birth.
3 Edward O Wright 10 b Wigan
WRIGHT, EDWARD OLIVER mmn WILLITT
1901 M Quarter in WIGAN
1921 Edward Oliver Wright b 1900 Wigan is a boarder with no relatives
Waterloo Lancashire. An Edward Oliver Wright 23 married Norah Brown in 1924 father Lemuel Wright stone mason deceased.
So where is Lemuel and where did Elizabeth / Sarah go.
1939 Birth Date 6 Dec 1900
Edith married 23 Feb 1913 Woolton.

There is nothing in the local papers about Robert Jessie Wright except for a report on an assault on him in 1907 when he was still an Insurance Superintendent.
1932 Bryn, Henry Street, Ruabon.
1921 13 Henry Street, Ruabon
1911 Henry St, Ruabon
1901 Henry Street.
Henry Street is still there, I had a friend who lived there.
