Title: Viewing Microfiche
Post by: palfamilytree on Saturday 27 February 10 17:20 GMT (UK)
Hi,
Does anyone know of an easy way of viewing microfiche on a computer? I have just seen a USB digital microscope, with a magnification of 200x, advertised. Would this do?
Regards,
Paul

I actually own one of those microscopes, and you can do it, but it's very fiddly, and it will take you quite some time just to make out one line of text - you have to hold the fiche against a light background.  To search through a list would be almost impossible.  You can get second-hand fiche readers on Ebay, or if you don't want to do that, you could try your local library who prbably have one or two readers still in use.  Car parts dealers also have old fiche readers gathering dust in their store rooms, which they could be tempted to donate to you, or sell at a low price.

i also have a usb microscope and is excellent to read a document you have printed or in my case i have  a couple of certificates that TINY writing is crammed into boxes, if you want to read from a computer screen?
then for the sake of your eyesight or sanity don't bother lol

as i say if you want to study a certificate, look at hallmarks on gold etc,
then it's a great piece of kit.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I think maybe I'll save my money at the moment and keep using the library fiche reader.
