My partners grandmother was born in NZ 1922 her name was Gladys Ivy Katherine Semark, can anyone help with details of her birth i.e. mothers name...her family moved over there for a short time.. father Walter semark, mother Nona semark, sister kathleen semark, brother, sidney , brother frederick. We have a feeling that the family moved over there because daughter kathleen may have been pregnant with Gladys, when child was born they moved back to england and said that Nona was actually gladys mother. Does this sound realistic. Where can i find emmigratio records
hopefully

http://www.findmypast.co.uk/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action
- you can see here a family heading to NZ in 1921.
Walter Semark, 1878
Mona, 1881
Kathleen, 1904
Frederick, 1906
Sydney, 1913
(there would be a few more details on the complete list).
Someone might be able to find the records of them returning to the UK for you.
-
Thank you thats very helpful...but where would i find the complete lists and details of their return journey which i think was only a couple of years later
-
Incoming passenger lists are on Ancestry; I can't get full info myself but Walter, Nona, Sydney and Gladys appear to have returned in 1927.
https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/search/
- shows Kathleen Semark m. Arthur Barker in 1923 in NZ
(I think this family may have also returned to the UK at some point, there's a possible child for them in Surrey in 1937)

That is brilliant thank you....is there anyway i can find out about the birth of Gladys in NZ 1922, or order a copy of her birth cert?
regards
Jay

A 1922 cert is classified as "non-historical", so you'd have to check the requirements to obtain a copy:

Hi Jay,
I can see one Gladys Semark born in New Zealand on Genes Reunited, however the date is 1918 not 1922. Are you a member?

Hi Jay,
There are no details except she was born in Wellington.
You can look up births of fiche at major libraries.

All it will tell me is the name of child and folio number. The number will be in the district keys book for me to see where the registration took place. it will not tell me the mother or fathers name without ordering it.
