Title: Edward Rees signature in Llangurig parish records
Post by: fisherj on Tuesday 23 February 10 18:38 GMT (UK)
I have 3 Edward Rees in succession in my family - all of Llangurig.

In reverse order:

Edward Rees bapt 1824
Edward Rees bapt 1795  (This Edward Rees was the village schoolmaster and parish clerk.)
Edward Rees born about 1771.

I have not been able to find the baptism of Edward 1771 in the Llangurig parish records - however - on the microfiche at the Powys record office there is one "page" with some scribbled subtractions of one year from another and also these words "Edward Rees his hand 1768 September".

I am wondering whether Edward 1771's father was this Edward Rees - and that he was the parish clerk in 1768.   His grandson Edward 1795 then followed the family tradition by becoming the parish clerk years later.

Any comments would be gratefully received!  Someone else must have noticed with page, surely!

Hi Fisherj
As a Lewis I have been told I'm related some how to the Rees family of Llangurig.  My Lewis's family come from Llangurig as do most Lewis's in Montgomeryshire and have done for over 600 years.

Kind Regards

My g.g.grandmother was Anne Lewis, married to Richard Jones a shoemaker and farmer of llangurig, they lived at Pentre, Llangurig.
I haven't been very successful with my Welsh side of the family far too many of the same name in the same villages
