Title: 1891 & 1901 pls - Adolph Lionel BURLIN
Post by: JustinL on Tuesday 23 February 10 08:28 GMT (UK)
I would be very grateful if SKS could track down Adolph Lionel BURLIN in the 1891 and 1901 censuses.

Born in about 1863 possibly in Russia, he was married to Rosalie Weiss in London in 1882. She was possibly already married. Apparently, he left her in 1893 when she began drinking heavily.

By 1906, he had moved to south Manchester where he later married.

Thanks,

Justin

Hi,

Sorry, he doesn`t want to be found  :'(  However, I think he may have knocked a few years off his age by 1911  ::) .  On his marriage to Rosalie in 1882 he states he was 25.  A month before this he appears to have been baptised at Christ Church, Spitalfields, aged 24 and a Dentist.  When he dies in 1944 his age was given as 87.  So I suspect he was actually born around 1857/8 and not c.1863.

Regards,
Mo

Thanks Mo for looking.

Adolph was Jewish, so he would have needed a baptismal certificate to marry in a church.

Where did you find the baptism record?

Looks like he and Rosalie had a son, Charles Henry, in 1887. He's in Richmond (Yorks) in 1911, but like Adolph nowhere to seen otherwise.

In his bigamy trial in 1910, Adolph stated he was 45. Another little lapse of memory?

I'm sure his naturalisation papers will answer many questions.

Hi Justin,

Adolphs baptism is listed in the London Records on Ancestry (Adolph Leonel Burlin).

In his bigamy trial in 1910, Adolph stated he was 45. Another little lapse of memory?
;D ;D ;D

I did have a look on the 1891 census for the address he gave on his naturalisation papers - just on the offchance, but he wasn`t there.

Good Luck,
Mo

The woman I'm helping is going to (or already has) ordered the naturalisation papers.

Hi,

His address comes up on www.london-gazette.co.uk/search

I just typed in Burlin (I think) and left everything else blank to see what came up.  However if you type in " Burlin, Adolph " in the exact phrase box it comes up.

Regards,
Mo

Hi,
If its any help there is the following Baptismal record, it might help place the family in London, or not!
30 Jan 1898 Holy Trinity, Tottenham, Haringey
Charles Henry Burlin
Parents Adolph Lionel and Rosalie Burlin, Adolphs occ. Dentist, address only Tottenham.
Definately 1898 but not unusual to be baptised later in life.

Thanks for that Cathy.

Every little bit of the jigsaw will help no doubt.
