Title: Himsley/Emslie/Himisley
Post by: Finley 1 on Monday 22 February 10 11:53 GMT (UK)
OK.. This line is proving difficult to take back further than: William Himsley 1794 bn London... Now I have put the request on Fife board.... due to my Gt Grandmother being born in Kirkaldy.
So what I have is this:
Grace Himsley born 1856 Kirkaldy daughter of - William Himsley (there are lots of variations on the spelling of Himsley for instance Himisley / Emslie) and Margaret Robertson... I have Graces death cert that proves this.  So This William was born 1826 North Leith Midlothian,  he died c 1861 (cant find this to verify) and Margaret ended up with poss 3 illegitmate extras in the poor house...
His father was William born London 1794 - I have his death cert which shows parents as William Sergeant in the Marines and Ann with name that is not quite readable but could be Buchanan or Mckinnon.. ... So I then have a William born c1745 married to Ann McKinnon or Buchanan?  and it is from here I would like to get more details....

Hi
My grandmother Helen Hemsley Martin was B: 1904 in Ballingry Fife,

My line is :  Grace Himsley bn 1856 Kirkaldy daughter of William 1826 - who is the son of William bn 1794 London and Agnes Hannah so therefore is the brother of your Helen Hannah Himsley...bn 1824-- so hello cousin... this means we have a definate link.... how good is that?!  ;D ;D ;D

Now I am trying to go further back.. I imagine you know they are all sailors or rope makers etc... etc...

Hello,
I have just started to get back into this, I did think they were sailors,
I've been more interested in the Shields/Martins side of my mothers family,
Where in this big wide world are you ....
I found a David Himsleys tree on the net, familytree.himsley.org try awee look at this if you haven't seen it.

Hi from John Henderson aka DDJJAKE,
My first cousin twice removed Agnes Hunter BLAKE/HENDERSON [illigit b. 1886 Leslie- died 1955 Dundee RI ) married the grandson, James Moffat Martin [b. 1883 Ballingry- died 1973 Cupar], of Helen Hannah Himsley (b. 1824 N Leith).
I have most of the Himsley data you mention ... but did not follow-up William (1826) to Grace et al.

There is a distant relationship between the Himsleys/Martins/Shields/Glovers and Cairns' to the late Lord Kincraig (Robert Kilpatrick of Buckhaven b. Dysart, July1926) from the 'shot-gun' marriage of Catherine Sharp Glover and Rbt Kilpatrick Snr in March 1926 ) via Helen Himsley Martin (1904).

WOOOW  does that mean I am illegitamately related to somebody with drops of blue blood   interesting...

Now Hunter and Henderson are two names that follow through the line...
and you must be closer to Pizel than me as she is from the Martin side...

would be great to have anything you may have...
they are a little complicated so any help would be great... and if you want the Grace Himsley and Robert Sutherland details I can let you have them..

thanks

Hi Folks
Am trying to contact a lady who is a cousin related to the Martin/Himsley union.
She sent me some info on this branch and I am searching my email files to contact her.
With the advent of our DNA results, I am now trying to fill in the gaps and trying to encourage other cousins to take the test.
Having done this for over 30 years, we have 12,000+ names and have confirmations coming in with each new advert by Ancestry!  Prima facie evidence that our research is correct.
Am trying to tidy up my records to pass down to the next generations before I fall off the perch!  Have photos of families taken back in Scotland possibly in the 1880's? and need to get them sorted, if possible?

So it could well be me you are looking for :)

I am directly related to the Himsley line  --

and I have done the wonderful DNA test --

so maybe it is me.  Have you attempted contact on Ancestry, through a  result of a DNA match.

I will check my inbox.

ps if you post  two more responses on here then I can pm you

Sorry; can't help you with the Himsley line.  In this case, mine is only the Martin line.  However, any children down from the marriage of Wm Martin & Helen Hannah Himsley would be related to me and show up on any DNA matches.

An Ian Nellies has shown up as a DNA match and he has attached some documents of my g-g-grandparents to his Ancestry file.  I cannot read them as I don't have a paid subscription to ancestry but he will be my 4th cousin.  Am awaiting a reply from him.  He is on Facebook as well, as am I.  As more and more cousins are doing their DNA, we are unravelling more and more of the mysteries!

Having been doing this for 35+ years, the exciting part about DNA is that it is confirming (prima facie) that the paper trail is correct!

Pizel

Have we spoken before?  Your grandmother is my 2nd cousin, once removed & Christina Glover Shields is my 3rd cousin.  The common ancestors are: Wm Martin & Agnes Tod, my g-g-gandparents.  Some time ago, I corresponded with a lady who gave me a fair amount of info on the descendants of Wm Martin & Helen Hannah Himsley/Himisley/Hemsley but we have lost contact! :(
