Hi Everyone
I am still looking for this marriage. It is the marriage of my gg grandparents Robert Barkley from Ireland and Ellen Taylor from Barnard castle.
I have found a possible marriage on the Free BMD site for Ellen Taylor in Auckland in Dec 1863 which would be about right for the date, but when I click on the spouse link I can only see two other names which are a John Crawford and Isabella Hunter. They appear in the 1881 census with their family. So I cannot see who this Ellen Taylor married.
Is there some way that SKS can check these details for me, maybe in the parish transcripts/records or a complete GRO index??
Thanks
Steve

I could not see a corresponding Barkely/Berkely etc on the index. Perhaps you could write to the local register office and say you only want it if he is the spouse?

You should be able to tell from the Durham record office http://nd.durham.gov.uk/gro/newgro.nsf/search?open&C0172777020402042009$ But right now I don't seem to be able to get in. Sometimes on the weekends they do maintenance unless they changed the site again.

The Durham Register Office site has Ellen Taylor's spouse registered 1863 Durham Western as John Crawford. Isabella Hunter married William Hunter

I thought this was familiar ;)
I checked out these marriages for you here in 2006 http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,173011.msg824138.html#msg824138

Sorry Jennifer, I am going round in circles here, and desperate to find the marriage. Think I am clutching at straws, and should probably give up.

Not outside the realm of possibility have you consider that they may of married in Ireland?
I've submitted a correction to freebmd for the missing spouse (William Hunter), so when you come back to this in a few years time there won't be a missing spouse anymore ;D
Cheers

Thanks Jay. I had not thought about them getting married in Ireland though. That opens up a real can of worms. Going to Ireland would be a long way to go to get married, he was a coalman and she was a barmaid. Could they have afforded it?
You have me thinking now!
