Title: Where for art thou ..... John Doran???
Post by: alyson123 on Sunday 21 February 10 16:40 GMT (UK)
Looking for John Doran born 1867-1870 Ireland (probably County Down)
Have him on 1881c b. 1870 living Whitehaven and 1891c b.1867 res. Whitehaven living with widowed mother and
sister Elizabeth (now married to John Pyle) next door to the infamous Sal Madge. After this he dissapears!!!
He is a coalminer by occupation and does not feature in any death records between 1891 and 1901, his mother
Mary is living with his sister Elizabeth in 1901, but no sign of John.
I am leaning towards 1867 for Johns dob, as Elizabeth is fairly reliably b 1869, though I cannot find either birth
cert England or Ireland, also cannot find the Doran family in England on 1871 census.
A fresh pair of eyes welcomed .......... really struggling with these Doran's, I thought I might follow John for clues
regarding the Doran family origins.
Kind regards
Alyson

Hi,

There are 3 John Doran's in 1901, Whitehaven.  2 give W'haven as birthplace and 1 gives England - Sometimes children coming over quite young assumed they were born here, so as these Johns had married (two married Annies, and one married Agnes).  All these give age as 31 yrs.  Just a thought as possibles?
