On the marriage certificate, 1837, of my ancestor, Joseph Frost, it names his father as Thomas Frost, a furnaceman. There has been a lot of confusion about Joseph's father. Joseph was born in Ketley in about 1818 and there was a Joseph with father, James Frost of the right age.
It now seems that this James came from Derbyshire but this man also called THomas? Who knows. I have found a Thomas Frost on the Derby Marriage Records.
Thomas does not seem to appear on any census.
Can anyone help in this confusing, complicated problem?

				Hi Mike

Do you mean Joseph Frost born 1818 in Wellington to James & Sarah?
I noticed all the other children baptised around that time were also to James & Sarah, no sign of a Thomas.

What was the Thomas Frost marriage you found in Derbyshire?  The best thing is to try and eliminate that one.

				Hi Mike,

Just in case you had not found Joseph born 1818 in the 1841 Census:-

SURNAME TRANSCRIBED AS  FOREST - but the census sheet states Frost:-

 HO107/907 Folio 26 Pg 3  Wesslington Shropshire

 Joseph  20
 Sarah    25
 Thomas   3
 Emma    20  ALL BORN SHROPSHIRE
Remember all ages of adults were rounded down in the 1841 Census by up to 4 years.

I think the Emma listed is the one bpt 9th May 1841, although it is transcribed as aged 20.
The 1841 Census was taken on the 6/7June, so do not think the enumerator is saying 20 days?

Will you make necessary correction to the transcript?

Found Thomas Frost married Anne Jeffries on 26th Dec 1808 at St Peters, Derby.

Only one in Shropshire was the Joseph you mentioned, parents James and Sarah

				Hi

I think the Thomas who married Ann stayed in Derby as there are several children baptised to them at St Peters.
