Title: Where was residence of Constable family of Sproatley, bef. Burton-Constable Hal
Post by: donmatson on Saturday 20 February 10 16:36 GMT (UK)
Where did the Constable family from Albert Constable b. 1075 down to Robert Constable b. ca. 1418 d. 1488 live, in the Sproatley area, before they built Burton-Constable Hall in ca. 1570?  Are there any ruins or pictures or map showing location of it, anywhere online?
Thank you
Don

The Constables lived in nearby Halsham until the 17th century but their residence is no longer visible. It was in a field about 70 yards to the north of the church.  Close by the site there is the family mausoleum but this is a later building (1800) and was not there when they resided in Halsham.  The mausoleum is still in use by the family.
