Think you are going to need a birth cert as there is nothing in Liverpool but there are 2 male Goodman marriages to female Ward's elsewhere on freebmd

One possibility is that one of the names is missing on freebmd - it's not at all unusual to find an uneven number of male/female names on the same page.

However - looking at the Goodman entries - they all have names against them

Just had another thought

If Ward was married previously - she would not marry as Ward (eg)

Elizabeth Ward marries Joe Bloggs and is widowed

Elizabeth Bloggs marries Mr Goodman

However - baby Goodman's birth cert will show her true maiden name of Ward

Thanks Carole, I never thought of that. However one of my ancestors was married in name of her first marriage not her maiden name. Will send for birth cert.

Hi

That's what I meant.  Ward may be her birth maiden name but if she was married previously - she won't have married as Ward which is probably why we can't find a marriage between Goodman/Ward.

However - the children's birth reg will show her true maiden name - not her previous married name

Have you seen that there are two births registered in West Derby of Goodman children with MMN Ward?  The first, in 1919 is also indexed under Ward, implying that the parents aren't married.  The second, in 1922 is indexed only under Goodman.

The following is not conclusive, but might be of interest.

There is a 1921 marriage  in West Derby of an Edwin Goodman and Theresa Neish.
I can't see a Theresa Neish anywhere in 1911.
There don't appear to be any Goodman births registered with MMN Neish

In Dec Q 1911 a Theresa Wood married Joseph Neish in West Derby. Three births follow this marriage, the last in 1918 (this child died soon after birth).
I can't see a likely death of Joseph Neish.

The only Theresa Wood in West Derby in 1911 is aged 23 (so born 1887/8)
A Theresa Goodman dob 8 Feb 1888 died in 1974 in Alyn & Deeside district.

To sum up, I think Theresa Wood married Joseph Neish and then Edwin Goodman.  She might  have felt she had reason to alter her maiden name to Ward.

[I'm becoming more doubtful now I've typed it all out, but you never know]

Hi, thank you for this information, which I found of interest. I have made a note of it and after I receive birth certificate I will see if these records link up.

Hello,

I realise that your last post was a little while ago but I thought I may be able to help. The Neish part of your problem I can confirm:-
I have a Joseph Cox Neish born 1880 Died 1921. Records in West Derby and Liverpool.
Parents Robert Todd Neish and Mary Cox.
Married to Theresa Wood in 1911 Liverpool. 3 children all born Liverpool.
Joseph 1918 - 1918
Mona 1913 - 1994
Roberta 1915 - 1940
You are therefore most likely correct in suggesting two marriages for Theresa.
regards
Alisdair
