This is a long shot I know.
I'm trying to find the marriage of Richard Kearsley to Sarah at some point prior to their first child in 1835. As I have had no luck on the Kearsley side I thought I would attack it from Sarah's side. To cut a very long story short I beleive that Sarah was born about 1812 in Shalford, Surrey. Census info would seem to show that once married she stayed in the Bermondsey area after Richard died in 1841.
So the big question is if she was born in Shalford where do I find the parish information? I guess that I would have to find all the Sarah's christened/bapitsed there in or around 1812 and eliminate them one by one.

Shalford I believe is in Essex, unless there is another one in Surrey as well. Shalford is on the EssexSEAX site although the parish info for 1812 isn't on the site yet. However there is a fiche record that you could use/get copies of.
regards.

Did they have any further children after 1837 before Richard died?
If so a birth cert would give you Sarah's maiden name and make it a whole lot easier!

Is this her in 1841?
HO107 1048 1
Parkers Buildings, Spa Rd, Bermonsey
James Kelsey? 59 Tanner Y
Elizabeth 55 Y
Sarah Kearsley 30 Y
Sarah 6 N
James 1 N
Cant see her in 1851 - was hoping to find birthplace for the children
By 1861 they have left home and she is alone at RG9 321 19 34, clearly born Shalford Surrey

Shalford is in Surrey, just outside Guildford. The Surrey History centre may be able to help you http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/sccwebsite/sccwspages.nsf/LookupWebPagesByTITLE_RTF/Surrey+History+Centre?opendocument

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies.
Firstly there would appear to be two Shalfords, essex near Braintree and Surrey near Guildford. I am interested in the Surrey one.
Lizdb, yes thats her. I have her on the census returns until 1891, although it took some doing as they where missed transcrided as Bearsley, kersley etc.
Unfortunately James was the last born in 1840/1841, Richard died when James was about 9 months old. I cannot find any birth index for James Kearsley (1840) or parish entries for sister Sarah Ann (1835) online, although I have marriages for both, but no mother mentioned! Sarah Ann I beleive was born in Tower Hill/Tower of London & James in Westminster St Margarets.
The only conclusion I can come up with is that as Richard was in the Grenadier Guards at the time it was a military wedding/baptisms etc. Although I think I have exhausted the army births, the Grenadiers may be a special case. As Richard was from the Manchester area I haven't ruled that out, but again can't find evidence to support it. Hence the Sarah angle and Shalford. Its starting to get frustrating, but I am not going to let it go.
Rosie99 I will have a go with the Surrey History centre.

What does James give as place of birth on the censuses 1851 to 1911?

Cenus info shows James born in London Westminster. This is also on his military documents as Westminster St Margarets, but alas no birth info.
