Title: Strange word -help!
Post by: redbook on Monday 15 February 10 17:51 GMT (UK)
Hello

I posted about the topic that this relates to in the Scotland General board under "Elizabeth Crawford death/Elizabeth Cumming birth". What I'd like is someone to try and decipher the word below- is it Domissy? And does it mean that the Mother will have sole responsibility for the child?

Hope someone can help

Thanks

I think it says "Dimissory" which means dismissing or granting leave to depart.  Whether that means the child was baptised in a different diocese to the one he lived or whether the mother had permission to take the child elsewhere I don't know.
