Hi
My Gt. grandfathers brother died in Foresthall Hospital in 1954 he had been a down and out and was disowned by the family. I was wondering where he would most likly have been buried i am guessing the hospital must of organised this as his brother had not had any contact with him from the 30's. How would i find out where he was buried and would the grave be marked or would there be a plot where all the poor were just buried i have no idea on cemeterys and the like but i am looking for as much info as i can on this ancestor as he has been quite the mystery.
Thanks Louise :D

Louise, the nearest cemetery to Foresthall is Sighthill, you should be able to get info' from Glasgow, Land Services, High Street, but they might charge. I was talking to somebody who accessed info' on a lair at Riddrie Cemetery via the Mormons. I don't know the details!......Skoosh.

Glasgow Land Services currently charge around £70 for a burial search, but as you know that your Gt Grandfather's brother died in Foresthall Hospital, you might wish to try the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Archives (NHSGGC)- see
Contact Us (http://www.archives.gla.ac.uk/gghb/contact.html) and FAQ (http://www.archives.gla.ac.uk/gghb/gghbfaq.html) for more info.
The records are located at the Mitchell but not accessible to the general public or Mitchell Staff. prior contact is required with the NHSGGC archivist first.
Hope this helps.

It is likely that he will be in unmarked common ground

Hi,
I would ask someone if they could do a Poor Relief Record
search for you ...it will probable give you more information
on where he lived before and he mental and physical
disabilities...also more about family...they are quite informational...i have had wonder reports...Good luck

Hi Louse, Try momento-mori.co.uk as they have lots of graveyards listed and Sighthill is on there. Though if he didn't have a gravestone then he wouldn't be on this list. Annie

Hi Skoosh, Yokerbrian, Sacti, Crookedtail and Anste
Thanks for all your help he is not on the Memento mori site so i am going to pop into the Mitchell and look for poor relief records and i am going to contact the Glasgow uni archives too as £70 sounds an awful lot for a burial search that will be a last resort i think. I also have a Mormon friend who i will ask if he can find out about a search.
Thanks to everyone
Louise ;D
