Is it possible to purchase copies of Italain Wills as I am trying to help my friend start her Family History. She needs a copy Will for the area LUCCA.
Her husband has a copy but he considers it is private and only the head of the house should see it. What she does know is that it has a long lilst of Family Names in them which could be so useful for that part of the family.

Since presumably it is the financial arrangements that are considered to be private, maybe her husband could be persuaded to list the names and relationships for her? She wouldn't actually need to see the will or know anything about bequests etc.

Isabel,
Thank you for your reply, I was hoping to be able to buy a copy for her as we can do in the UK and get the Family History started. Her husband is not 'user friendly' and is at the present time in Italy.
I think from what she tells me that she has a good idea of the financial side of things and has no problems with that. She would like to learn more about who is who in the family.

Hi
I believe that Italian Wills are usually lodged with notaries locally, so it is necessary to know where a person was living when they made the will / died, and then to approach individual notaries - small towns may only have one or two notaries, but there will of course be many in large towns and cities.
In this sense, Italian wills are not public documents in the way that English & Welsh proved wills are public and searchable at the Probate Registry in London or obtainable by post from the York Registry.
Sorry!
