Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help with this problem please. I'm trying to track down the wife of Thomas Daniel Judge who was born 1901 in Long Buckby, Northamptonshire.
He married someone called Win and moved to Lancashire. I have found a marriage entry for a Winifred Watkinson in 1936 in Leigh Lancashire to a Thomas D Judge.
I'm uncertain if this is the correct marriage entry or if Thomas did marry someone with the surname of Watkinson.
Does anyone have access to any parish records to search for this marriage?
I just can't make any progress on this branch of the family. Thomas is my granduncle.
Regards
Linda

From http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk the full name is indeed Thomas Daniel Judge who married Winifred Watkinson at Golborne St. Thomas.
I'm sorry I don't have access to the registers, but to help anybody who might have the marriage took place during the July-September quarter of 1936, this saves a search through the whole year.

Thank you Mary A for your confirmation on the marriage of Thomas Daniel Judge and Winifred Watkinson.
If anyone out there has any further information regarding the ancestry of Winifred, ie. her father, mother, siblings etc., I would be very grateful for your knowledge.
Regards

So, how much of your info is official documents and how much family/oral history?
Where did winifred's birth year and place come from?
Did you corroborate that with BMD info? Can you see her on the 1901 index?
Can you see her on the 1911 index? ALL three of these resources are free.
Did Uncle & Auntie win have any kids? Mother's maiden name will be on index.
When did Win die? Her age would be on that index record...

Hi Pauline,
I only have oral family history to go by. My father said that his uncle Thomas Daniel Judge married someone called Winifred and that they lived in Lancashire, Golborne.
I've found Thomas Daniels bmd record and the bmd marriage index for a Winifred Watkinson for that area.
I don't have any other documented evidence I'm afraid.
Thomas Daniel Judge apparently was killed in a road accident, and I believe they didn't have any children while they were married.
I just need clues on Winifred to start my search as we know very little about their life together.
Family say that she was Lancashire born.

I'm unsure if Win remarried after the death of Thomas. I found a bmd death ref for Thomas D Judge in 1956

1911 census there's a Winifred born 1908 Leigh area Lancashire. I don't have access to 1911 census at the moment. This could be her, but would have to find her fathers details on a marriage cert to be certain I think.

Yes I think you will need that 1930's marriage cert.
Looking at Lancsbmd there is at least one candidate sibling (in same sub-district).
Cross-ref with freebmd MMN to look for marriage(s)

I believe the death of Thomas would be
Thomas D Judge Q1 1958 Leigh 10d 52 age 56
I also believe there was one child to their marriage, born 1940 although I don't see a death or marriage that I would definitely say fitted.

Thanks for your help on this problem. I looked at http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html and also found Thomas Daniel Judge's sister who married at the same place too, so things fit into place a little more. With what I found on that site regarding Thomas Daniel Judge and his sister, it gave me the names of my grand uncle and aunt who I knew.
A good days work, but still needs more verification with a marriage certifcate and if anyone has any more information on the family of Winifred Watkinson, I'd be very grateful.
At least seeing Thomas Daniel's sisters name on the site, made it more clearer to me and links in quite well with what I originally was looking for. It was a boost to find this extra information, which ties in with BMD records too...... for Thomas's sister Fanny Judge.
