Post by: katherinem on Friday 12 February 10 11:23 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I am trying to find out more information on John Sheader born in Scarborough c1800.  If anyone has access to the parish records, I would be grateful for a look up of his baptism.

Thank you.

Kath

To the person going to the Scarborough records office.  Could I also add a look up request if you have time after your own research.

Looking for James Terry born about 1800-1802 in Scarborough. Moved to Leeds later on, nothing more known about parents.

Does anyone know of any online resources or interesting pages for the area?  I am in the Cayman Islands these days from the Uk, so actual physical research is no longer possible.  I miss those days in the record offices......

Thanks very much in advance and good luck with your own research

Hi, Kath, The PR of St. Mary,s is a photocopy of a transcript.
I started at bapt. 1800-1811  nothing
then bapt 1780 -1800, 3 Sept 1799 John s George& Alice SHRADER. 13 Jan 1797 William s George & Alice SHEADER. 2 Nov 1792 Joseph s George & Alice SHEADER. 2 Nov 1792 George s George & Alice SHEADER. 22 Dec. 1789 Nicholas s George & ALEY SHRADER. I then looked for the marriage of George and Alice (ALEY). 15 Jan 1788 George SHRADER & ALEY Stubs. In my last few minutes looked for the burial either George & Alice (ALEY) . 23 Oct 1824 Alice SHEADER age 68.
that is the best i could do , if you think this is your family I will have a further look when I go to Scarborough again,  Best Wishes Clive.

Clive,

Wow, thank you very much, it is really appreciated. :)

I will now go and do some digging, John actually named one of his daughters Alice, so looking good!

If I can ever repay your kindness, i.e. my mum has access to the West Yorkshire Archives, please do yell, I am in Oxfordshire if that helps also.

Thanks again.

Kath

Clive,  you are an absolute star.

Could never have got so far without the amazing help from kind people like you doing so much to help us all across the country and indeed the world with all of our 'local' lookups.

Visiting the records office for any of my lines is currently out of the question from the Cayman Islands!

Thanks once again, and good luck with all of your research

hi there, and thanks for the offer.  If you are ever there with all your bits and pieces done, yes I would always appreciate a bit of help.

You found James Terry bap 1799 of Charles Terry and Ann.  Their marriage and details of any siblings to James you find would be more amazing progress for me.  It seems there is no other way than to look through the local records,

thanks once again

Hi, Deby, I had alook at St. Mary,s first for marriage of Charles and Ann 1780-1799, nothing. So looked for further bapt. 1790-1810, nothing. I will have a look at any surrounding parishes in print. The only other church they may be in is St. Thomas 1705-1968, these are held at beverley Teasure House,
PE 166/22. the Methodist records are held at Beverley as well.I wont be going to Beverley till late June, but as I said I will have a look at surrounding parishes.
Best Wishes Clive

Ah ha just my luck, thanks anyway for taking the time to look up for me.  How strange to just get the one random entry.  Maybe they were moving through and were only there a short time.

If you do ever come across more Terry's in your travels, I'd be interested to learn more,

thanks again for your time

Hi Clive,

Many apologies for the late reply, have only just seen your post with further information.  I had looked on familysearch for the birth of Alice, but to no avail, but of course it is on there under Ellis!

Interestingly cannot find anything on the Sheaders prior to the marriage of George Sheader and Alice in 1756, so wondering if they originated from somewhere other than Scarborough.

Once again many thanks for your time, it is appreciated and is most helpful.

Kind Regards,

Kath
