I have just been looking at a certificate of baptism for my husband's sister. It states that she was born in Northfield Laugton Kent. Can anyone please tell me where this is ? Is it a hospital or place as my husband always assumed ( wrongly as it now shows ) that she was born in Southborough the same as he and his brother were.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

There's a Laughton in East Sussex. ???

Hi, I wonder could the 'u' be 'n', and the word be Langton, according to a Kent Post Office directory 1878, there
is a hamlet about 5 miles from Southborough called Langton, but no mention of a Northfield, just an idea.

Hi
What is the registration district and/or sub district on the certificate?
Is there an actual address given or would Northfield be the address perhaps?
There is a property named Northfield in Langton Green (Langton) listed in a 1914 directory of the Tunbridge Wells area - Ernest LEES occupier
Casalguidi :)

Thanks everyone for your replies. Casalguidi it's a certificate of baptism issued by the minister not a birth cert. I will scan it in and post it later to see if anyone has any more thoughts.
Thanks again for all your replies.

You should get a copy of the birth certificate, as that may have more explanation. I would be pretty sure this is the reference:
Name: Marion P Lloyd
Mother's Maiden Surname: Walker
Date of Registration: Apr May Jun 1948
Registration district: Tonbridge
Registration county: Greater London, Middlesex
Volume Number: 5b
Page Number: 1484
I also note the mention of Hildenborough on that list. It is very close to Tonbridge.

Checking the maps, I would think it very likely casalguidi has it right. Northfield Lodge, Langton Rod, Langton Green is only about 9 miles from Hildenborough, and closer still to Southborough.
Various possibilities - the family could have been living there, it might have been a lodging house of some sort, or even a nursing home perhaps.

Thanks nigelo
Yes that's the right birth registration mother's maiden name was Walker.
They were all living in Southborough at the time with their grandmother Marian Lloyd, I know where.
I was trying to establish where or what Northfield Laugton was or is. I thought that it could be a nursing home but could not find a place called Northfield Laugton . Looking at the cert it could be an "n" so Langton is a possibility.
So it could be a nursing home in Langton, any one know of it ?
Many thanks for taking the trouble to help me, it is much appreciated.

Googling that address gets to this page of fairly recent (2003) planning applications. I see it lists an owner's details, so perhaps they can help tell you if it was ever a nursing home?

Hi Nigel,
great minds think alike ;D
That's what I was doing when your reply popped up ;)
I hadn't searched for Langton only Laugton so was having a look see what I could find. The planning app was interesting. Seems there was a Northfield Lodge and Northfield house, Seems almost certain it might have been a nursing Home at one time.
Thanks for taking an interest.

I believe that Northfields in Langton Green was a nursing home. I was born there in 1949!!

How strange that you should post this today as it is her birthday :) Sadly she passed away last year in australia.
Thanks for confirming that it was a nursing home.
