Looking for a fairly recent (1996) death entry I found three separate entries, one for her maiden name, and one each with her two married names. All had the same details including index number.
Please can anyone tell me if this is unusual or are the GRO indexing all names by which a person has had? It would certainly make things a lot easier if they are.
Any ideas please?

Hi Flipflops,
I think it all depends on what the person who registered the death told the registrar. If they said something like Mary Smith formerly known as Brown then the death will be indexed in both those names.

Thanks Tati, Checking my Mum's death cert, she died 1994, her maiden name is given on the certificate, but not on the GRO index. I don't have anything more recent to check to see if there has been a change since Mum's death, so I dunno *what* to think ???

Hi
I have a relation with a recent death who had been married three times and she appears under each name too, I wonder if they do it for people with multiple names, I am intrigued too.
