Title: Joseph Finn line in Dublin
Post by: Malmackenzie on Wednesday 10 February 10 09:56 GMT (UK)
Could any kind person give me any information for Joseph. I have found full details of him in the later census. In particular I am looking for his first marriage details. I know that he was born around 1873 in Dublin and had 1 child Michael born 1895 to the first marriage. Josephs occupation was a cooper.
Who did he marry and did they have any more children? Mikey ran away to Liverpool before 1915 after a fall out with his step mother and never went back to Ireland. He also never spoke of his family from Ireland.
Here's hoping & thanx
Regards

Mal ;D

on liverpool aunty kearns , have you her on a census ?
what county if any does it say shes from ?
assuming her sister might have come from same county might narrow down her marriage .
i cant get joseph and elizabeth names to cross ref each other for a marriage .
they didnt get married in england by any chance ?
when did joseph re marry ? michael was born 1894 so we know elizabeth died between these two dates yes ?

this looks like the references for the same marriage listed earlier on the Civil Index... a civil cert will have a few more details, such as occupations for bride, groom and fathers, and possibly ages for Joseph and Lizzie.

 Name: Joseph Finn
 Registration district: Dublin South
 Record type: Marriage
quarter and year: Jul - Sep 1888
 Volume: 2 / Page: 613

 Name: Lizzie Kearns
 [same index details]

Jane Kearns was born abt 1858 in Dublin. She was married to Patrick Meehan born abt 1861 in Liverpool. They had 1 child Mary Meehan born 1883. In the most recent census they had a Ellen Finn down as neice was staying them. She was aged 23 born Dublin and occ down as Rubber shoe maker. She may have just fitted in as being eldest daughter of Joseph & Elizabeth

see Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,433040.0.html)

There are other useful details on the Ireland Resources (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,385.0.html) section re searching the index, details included on the various certs  etc..

Obbie - Sorry did not read the full extent of you last post. They had been married for 3 and a half years in the most recent census. His wife was called Mabel. Shane has already kindly located the marriage details for Joseph & Lizzie... Thanx again Mal

a possible match for the baptism of Joseph Finn (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/4d59030406463?name=finn&name2=&location=&dd=&mm=&yy=&type=B&diocese=DUBLIN&parish=ST.+ANDREW%27S+R.C.&century=&decade=&sort=date&pageSize=100&submit=Search) in 1869

the same father's name, and in the same parish as the marriage. It could fit the the timeframe assuming Joseph was about 19 when he married. It's well worth following obbie's advice and browsing through various Finn records to see if other matches can be found, in this or other parishes. Note that many first names are listed in Latin.

Shane,
Can I ask what site you use to get the marriage index details from? Is there a birth index. I am looking for Michael Finn (son of Joseph & Lizzie). I am hoping for date of birth for around 19 Jul 1895. That is the details we have from the English side decendants of Mikey. The christening details made gave DOB for 1894??? Thanx again

Regards

Mal

The BMD index can be searched at : Irish Civil Index (http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails;t=searchable;c=1408347) (its also in the Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon link mentioned earlier )

There are a number of Michael Finn births registered - just one in exactly 1894 that I see. You'll have to order a birth cert to check the parents names.

Where the family still in Ireland for the 1901 or 1911 census ?

Thanx again Shane,
I have details for 1911 census but not the 1901 census. Joseph had remarried by then with Mikey aged 16 still at home. Is the 1901 census available anywhere?

the 1901 data is due to be added sometime this year on the National Archives website.

I had another look at he Civil Index and the possible parish record for Michael - I am assuming that the address should read Cumberland St. There are two streets in Dublin city with that name - one near to Westland row in the south of the City and the other near to Parnell St on the Northside. The possible 1894 index record is in the Dublin South district :

 Name: Michael Finn
 Registration district: Dublin South
 Record type: Birth
quarter and year: Oct - Dec 1894
 Volume: 2 / Page: 560

the next closest match by date is in Apr-Jun 1896
