Title: Criminal Reg.1791-1892
Post by: Ochsenkopff on Wednesday 10 February 10 03:44 GMT (UK)
Hi
I am trying to trace a Lazarus Warr who apparently may have got himself into some trouble born about 1816 and was residing in dorset 2nd January 1838.
Comes under the heading of Criminal Reg. 1791-1892 for Court/Land/Wills/Financial/
As I live in Australia I am wondering if someone could give me some info of how to go about finding Lazarus

I found this info on Ancestery Com. but I am not a member so is there some other way of finding out the details.

Many thanks for any advise.

Colin

Hi kerry
Thank you so much and yes I thought he was a Fry and not a Warr.
Appreciate your quick responce and the information on Lazarus.

You may have also opened up a new theory for me on the Free Births Deaths and Marriage Index a Lazarus Warr is indexed as dying March1885 Blandford aged 78 Ca 1807 although I have a few Lazarus's in my Family Tree, Warr and Fry surnames I have never been able to determine who this one is, could this be the Lazarus Fry who committed the crime and kept the name of Warr?
The mind boggles although the age is out I suppose there could be a possibility it is him.

Hello Tracker 1

Your Lazarus Thomas Fry 29th February 1816 Iwerne Courtney is indeed the one mentioned of this crime.
He was my second cousin three times removed

Thankyou for that  Colin. My direct ancestor was his twin? brother,John Fry. I do have input in to the tree on ancestry mentioned previously, but there a number of errors which I have uncovered recently.
I am trying to take this tree back further to Thomas, their father, and his family.Do you have any. info. on earlier Frys?
My knowledge of the Warr family is taken from other people's research so far, but I intend to take a look at it too.

Hi M
Sorry have no info on Thomas Fry who married Elizabeth Warr only that he could have been born about 1798.

Your John Thomas married Hannah Seller and he I believe died Registered June 1877 Wimborne.
Was it true that John Thomas Fry by1861 census was blind? not sure if I found that info myself or it was given to me.

Hi Colin,
Yes John Fry was blind. Family legend has it that he was blinded as a result of an accident while out shooting. He had been a miller, I believe, before this happened.
i wonder what became of Lazarus Fry( Warr). I have found no trace of his later life so far.

Thanks djm297
Lazarus bpt 1792 was brother of Elizabeth baptized 1786. She married Thomas Fry on 14 Jan 1815.
Their children, who were all baptised in Iwerene Courtney (also known as Shroton), were:
(twins) Lazarus Thomas & John in 1816, Edward in 1817, Joseph in 1818.  Elizabeth & Joseph were both buried 2 Mar 1819.  Most likely the 3 remaining boys were looked after by her parents.
The Record Book entry of Lazarus' misdemeanour shows surname Fry crossed out & replaced with Warr.  Presumably this was to avoid anyone connecting him to his father who we think already had some position of good standing as he later became a Relieving Officer & Registrar in Hampshire.
The John Fry recorded on 1841 Census as residing in Dorchester goal at that time has been tracked & was NOT the twin of Lazarus.

Hi,
You seem to have got it mostly right 'Dorset Daisy'. Of the 3 sons of Thomas and Eliz. only Edward went with Thomas and his 2nd wife ,Leah , to Fawley in Hampshire.
There is more info. on my Fry/Wells tree on Ancestry for anyone who is interested, or send me a message.
John Fry is my gr.gr. gfr.
Are you related to this family 'Dorset Daisy'?
M.
