Hi,
I have an ancestor who sailed on P&O ships SS Kaisar - Hind & SS Corfu in 1938 & 1939. He went to Yokohama, Kobe, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Penang, Cochin, Bombay, Aden, Port Sudan, Port Said, Malta, Marseilles, Gibraltar & Tangier. He also travelled on SS Karachi to Calcutta, India in 1937. And went to Mongolia & Australia. On the Incoming Passenger Lists he is described variously as a Salesman or Agent or Merchant.
He travelled 2nd class, have you any idea what he might have been selling? I should really appreciate knowing a bit more. :)
Best wishes from Quester

Could have been anything really given the wide range of countries he dealt with. Silk/fabric possibly or "fancy goods". Timber (doubtful)
What part of England did he live in? Was it known for any particular product

Hi Carole,
He came from Plumstead, Kent. The only thing it was famous for was was the Royal Arsenal at nearby Woolwich, I don't think it had any other claims to fame.

Dear Quester,
I am new to this site so I can't work out how to get in touch. I see you have an interest in Marsh in Beaminster, as do I. I did not see any ref. to this in links.
