thank you Cathy I will look at ancestry and see. The names of the children are completely strange to our family but that is just a thought. there is another family in coatbridge scotland in 1901 census that may fit and the names are right and hugh junior was born 1898 so i will try and persue both

Hi Cathy, many thanks for looking into Hugh McAuley. We have been confused with 2 different families. Through Army records we think we have found the correct Hugh. The record you have found was one of the ones we were confused about, and have come to the conclusion that Hugh was not in the forces but his son was. We think he was born 1898 in Coatbridge and joined up in September 1914, at Wallsend, 5th battalion N.F. 137509 was his regimental number. On his records it shows correspondance sent to 2 addresses in Newcastle - 15 John Street and 46 Elswick Street regarding his injuries - shot in the hand and knee. Fathers name Hugh and on one letter, mothers name Mrs. R. McAuley, which we think is Rose. We are thinking that Hugh (senior) may have died before 1919 as one of the letters was sent to his mother. Maybe we can find a death record? Will look into this. Once again, thankyou for your help, we appreciate you looking for us.
