Hiya
I wonder if anyone could help me please, by brickwall is Thomas HUDGILL/HUDGELL born circa 1820 in Stanford Rivers Essex, but died in Bishop Stortford workhouse in 1868 therefore I think from late 1848 he has moved into Hertfordshire and possibly Sawbridgeworth or Bishop Stortford.
As I can't find him at all in the 1851 or 1861 could anyone please who has the cenus's have another look for me......................I must have missed him somewhere, pleassssssse
Or if anyone is interested in the HUDGELL name my website is www.hudgill.co.uk and enquiries are always welcome.
Thanks so much

Hello Pam
It would be a very long job to search Sawbridgeworth and Bishops Stortford in 1851, but the whole of Herts has been indexed, (but not published) and is available for viewing at HALS. The 1861 for Hertfordshire is only available on film at present.
If you cannot visit in person, it might be worth taking advantage of HALS's 20-30 minute research service for £5.

Hiya Rick,
Thanks very much, I have both of the census's and have searched, I don't have the indexes though, but just thought if someone else is looking for someone in Sawbridgeworth might have better eyes than me :D
I did find his companion and friend who was the informant on his death certificate in the 1861 and 1871 in Bishop Stortford workhouse and that was where I expected Thomas to be, but not so, thanks again, the search goes on, HALS have been very helpful indeed.
