Hi Mark, I have a Wilson gtgrandfather,  John Wilson. b. @1847, parents Innes Wilson and Jane Watt.  He married Elizabeth Forbes West and they lived on High Shore, Macduff.  He was a fisherman, as were his sons and father.  Any connections?

Good morning - and welcome to Rootschat.

Can you be a little more specific?  As you haven't come across this surname by chance - what info do you have, and what are you looking for?

Do you the 'Wilson' that you're looking for on any census records.  Do you have his marriage or death entry - who was he married to - who were his parents? etc.  Lots of people here only too willing to help.

Regards,   Steve  :)

Hello mark

This would appear to be a 17 year old Henrietta in the 1881 census

From the IGI - www.familysearch.org.uk

Children born to George Wilson and Henrietta Munro - all 'extracted' - therefore images of entries can be downloaded from the ppv site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

You will have to download the Andrew Wilson birth entry as it's the year of first registration and should hopefully give a lot of good info.

 1   ANDREW WILSON - Birth: 02 APR 1855 Banff, Banff, Scotland
 2.  DANIEL WILSON  Birth: 13 FEB 1857 Banff, Banff, Scotland
 3.  HENERETTA WILSON Birth: 26 APR 1858 Banff, Banff, Scotland
 4.  MARGARET ANN WILSON Birth: 30 APR 1860 Banff, Banff, Scotland
 5.  HENRIETTA WILSON Birth: 17 MAY 1863 Banff, Banff, Scotland
 6.  JANE WILSON -  Birth: 23 JAN 1866 Banff, Banff, Scotland

Hello again mark,

Marriage for George Wilson and Henrietta Munro.  From the IGI and -'extracted' - yet again,  both can be downloaded from the OPR section of Scotlands People (SP).  As you may be aware the majority of OPRs have only the names of the couple married - but sometimes gives the brides fathers name and occupation.

There are 2 entries reflecting the the recording in both the bride and grooms parishes.

24 Oct 1852, Boyndie, Banff
28 Oct 1852 Boyndie, Banff
~~~~~~~~-----------
The free search facility on SP 1855 to 2006 only brings up 1 Henrietta Wilson - other name Munro death.  She dies in 1905.  I'm out of credits for SP - have spent too much this month....  If you download the entry - shall give you both her parents names - including mothers maiden name.  Assuming the informant knew the info.
______________________________________________
I see that the IGI has a submitted record for the birth of a George Wilson in Newton, Midlothian, b.  21 May 1829, ch.  28 June 1829  father Andrew Wilson, mother Margaret Cumming.  I take it this ties in with the info on census records and Georges death entry.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyone else able to help with census records?  The only Henrietta Munro I can see on the 1841 census at www.freecen.org.uk is a 9 yr old servant.  If we take Henrietta snrs age as 51 on the 1881 census....
Regards,  Steve
I have a Wilson grandmother, Elsie, born in 1895 at 28 High Shore Macduff.  Her parents were Andrew Wilson and Margaret (nee Thompson) of Macduff and Andrew's parents  were Innes Wilson and Jane (nee Watt) as mentioned in Lawrenceb's post.  My Granny's sister Mary married Frank Mair and they lived at the foot of Fountain Street in Banff. All were fisherfolk.
Steve, from the info you have found, this looks like Henrietta in 1841 - just father born out of the county:
Donald Munro 40, fisherman b. Scotland
Margaret Munro 35
Jane Munro 13
Henrietta Munro 10
Margaret Munro 8
William Munro 5
Mary Munro 2
Address: Whitehills, Boyndie, Banff
In 1851, Henrietta is working in MacDuff, Gamrie, Banff as domestic servant. She looks to have been the only Henrietta Munro born in Banff for that period so not hard to find (we hope!)..
Mark
I would imagine you got details of Henrietta's parents' from her marriage cert? I can't easily see Henrietta and David Williamson in the later censuses from 1881, when Henrietta still shows at home with mother.
Have you got these details?
Hello Monica/Mark,
The mystery deepens.  Just back off www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
1881 to 1901 there are 12 Henrietta Wilsons marrying in Scotland - none to a Williamson.
The Henrietta Wilson I/we have tracked above marrries on 24 June 1887 at 38 Portessie, Rathven, Banffshire to a David McKeddie a Master Tailor - both are aged 24.  At the time she is a domestic servant and a spinster.
Her parents are down as George James Wilson (Ship pilot deceased), and Henrietta Wilson (Miss Munro).
A further check of SP brings up no mariages for a Henrietta McKeddie to a Williamson - checked from 1887 to 2006.
Looks as though you'll have to look elsewhere Mark - what 'facts', in writing do you have about 'your' David Williamson and his marriage.
Hopefully the research we've done here will help someone who is researching this Wilson/Munro/McKeddie family.
Regards,  Steve
It looks as though this line of enquiry may have been going on for a while, and fellow rootschatter Forfarian may have helped provide some of the info that was the starting point?
http://www.rootschat.com/links/081o/
So the hunt may move to England...?
That's a good find Kirsty  :) Great work Forfarian  ;)
Mark, given that Steve found a marriage for Henrietta Wilson to a David McKeddie in 1887, I would imagine a next step may be to find either a death of this David McKeddie pre 1901 or a David McKeddie by himself by the time of the 1901 census. It may be that Henrietta and David Williamson never married given that it has proved impossible as yet to find a marriage for them either in Scotland or England.
 :o Just found the marriage I think....
With Kirsty reference to England and having read through Forfarian main post on the link provided, I remembered that in England, widows marry under their existing married name - unlike in Scotland for this period where a widow would marry under her maiden name.
There is this marriage showing on FreeBmd:
Marriages 3rd Qrt 1898
Henrietta McKeddie in Poplar    1c   983 - also on the page is David Williamson
This marriage date would fit well with the birth of son David who shows in the 1901 census entry Forfarian found as aged two.
The marriage parish entry at St Luke, Millwall:
David Williamson, widower, 50. Father Adam, deceased
Henrietta McKeddie, widow, 35. Father George, deceased
This also fits well with what Forfarian found regarding a possible first marriage for David Williamson.
Hi Shandonman,
Good to meet up with you.  Your Andrew would be my John's older brother.   Are you interested in sharing information?
