Hello - I am researching back on my father's side and have encountered one of those brick walls. I have a Thomas Smith (born ~1796 - not been able to nail his birth date just yet) marrying a certain Eleanor Lobbin (born ~1793 - est. from census returns). From the Durham Records Online I got the following marriage details:
Marriage to Thomas Smith
St. Mary's Parish Church (Anglican), Whitburn, Durham
Thomas Smith (bachelor), of this parish married Eleanor Lobbin (spinster), of this parish
Lobbin may be a spelling mistake but I've not registered anyone close with that surname in the Durham area. Wonder if anyone has run into a similar issue.

Hi,
There is only one entry of Lobbin on FreeBMD but not in Durham;
Elizabeth LOBBIN
Death, June 1843, Tynemouth, 25 289
A Charles and Elizabeth Lobbin were having children christened Earsden, NBL in the late 1780/1790s
Does she say she is born Durham in 1851 Census?
Trish :)

Census returns show NBL & Cleadon in Durham for where Eleanor was born:
1841: Durham, England
1851: Cleadon, Durham, England
1861: Northumberland, England
1871: Cleadon, Durham, England

Hi Craig
Just putting the link to your previous query to save any duplication of searching:

Did you manage to trawl through the BT's as suggested on that thread?
Barbara :)

Hello
I did yes - some unrelated Lobbans too far south but nothing concrete on Lobbins in the north east unfortunately.
