Hi Mariac,
Thanks for the info, have that and the rest of that family(nice to confirm though) hope to get a bit further back.
-
Guys, a Heckler was engaged in processing hemp/flax, I think it was combing out the fibres preparatory to spinning.......Skoosh.

I am interested, as Alexander Forsyth and Elizabeth Graham are part of my tree also.
Did you find them in 1841?, as I have tried for a few years now and have not managed yet.
I dont know if I have spoken to you before or not, but John Forsyth and Mary Bain are also my line.

Hi chel13,
Don't know if we have been in touch or not, but didn't find Alexander & Elizabeth in 1841, had hoped that someone on the chat room may have come across them alive or dead.
Followed the Forsyth line to a marriage in 1921 of Alexander and Elizabeth Kerr Wait (my wife's aunt)

Hi,
Yes I think we have been in touch before, I am still hunting for them too!!
I even followed a Duncan Bain b. 1812 ( Mary sibling) through all the census, only to find it wasnt him ::) I dont know why we cant find these families, I even thought they might have immigrated, but found nothing, ah well.. someday!!!

Hi chel13,
Have a look at www.davghalgh/kilmuirpic4.html
Apparently Kilmuir Wester & Sudie were joined to form Knockbain in the mid 18th century.
Not that has still not done any good.

Hi again,
I have just been through my Forsyth notes again and wonder if you have any siblings for John Forsyth b. Kilmuir Wester.
In 1851 John and Mary are still in Cromarty, Alexander their son is in Johnshaven, living with Roderick Ross, an Uncle, I checked the IGI and a Roderick Ross married a Jean Forsyth 1823 Cromarty, also living with them is Elizabeth Forsyth, Roderick's sister in law, are these two John Forsyth's siblings? or have I got it wrong?
Do you have any more on them?
I also have no death for Elizabeth Forsyth, John and Mary Bains daughter, cant seem to find it, did you ever manage?

Hi chel13,
I have no siblings for John, believe his parents were Alexander Forsyth & Elizabeth Graham but found nothing on them.
I don't know who Roderick Ross or Jean Forsyth are so I'm not sure about the Alexander as I didn't find him on the 1851 census.
Elizabeth b. 1834 Cromarty was with her parents in Cromarty in 1851 and she died after 1891 in Johnshaven but never found a death for her.
Siblings to my Alexander are, Roderick 1843, Duncan 1831, John 1836, Elizabeth 1834 & Margaret (Mary), 1839.

Looks like I got it right!
After a day on Scotlandspeople and plenty of odd spellings, I found Elizabeth Forsyth b. abt 1802, died in Arbroath in 1873, she was indeed the daughter of Alexander Forsyth and Elizabeth Graham, her gt nephew John Riley signed her death cert, so we now know John Forsyth had at least two sisters, as Elizabeth was living in 1851 with Roderick Ross, as a sister in law, Roderick was a widower, his wife was Jean Forsyth, with them was Alexander Forsyth, a nephew, age is a bit out, but this would have been him.
John Forsyth and Mary Bain's daughter Elizabeth Forsyth, died jul 11 1905, at the Poorhouse Stonehaven.
The reason I couldn't find her was she went under the name Betsy.

Hi chel13,
You have been busy, Elizabeth 1834 lived with brother Duncan 1831 until he died 12/3/1900 at Fetterso Poor House, they were in Johnshaven in 1891, so that settles Elizabeth.
Will now have look at this Roderick Ross and the 2 Forsyth ladies.
Thank you.
-
Hi
I found Roderick Ross,s death, Jan 7 1864 at Johnshaven aged 68, his father was a James Ross, soldier, no mother named.
Roderick was a Chelsea Pensioner.
I wonder if there were any more Forsyth siblings I have been searching but nothing so far.
