Hi I am looking for more information on William Jackson who was a surgeon in 1808 when his son, William Newton Jackson was born. The family have weddings and baptisms at St Marys & St Cuthberts church, Chester le street, durham. I have most of this information but I cannot find William and his wife Mary on the 1841 or 1851 census. Any help would be appreciated. Also if anyone is also researching this family I would be interested.
Many thanks Sheila

Thank you Sheila :)
Do you have the deaths for William and Mary, in that, are they alive in 1851?
If so I need to look harder to pin them down ;D

Hello Sheila. I would think he was still in the Lanchester area because he is mentioned on a gravestone of his son in 1855.

Wow Thanks. Which son.
I only learnt about him yesterday. I have been tracing him via hia second son, William Newton Jackson, whose daughter, Mary Alice married John Simon Fraser, my 3xgreat grandfather. It was only on a fluke that I tried the Durham site to research William Newton that I came across his father, the surgeon and his grandfather, also William.
I would appreciate any further news you'd be willing to share with me.
Good luck

Hello Sheila. Just post the request on the Lanchester thread and I will post the inscription.
It may only give you the information that you already have

Hello, These people were my 3x gr grandparents. William was born in 1776 in Lanchester and died aged 66 in 1842 in Chester le St. Mary nee WATSON was born in North Shields and died in 1848 in Chester le Street. They were buried close to the front door of St Marys & St Cuthberts church. No head stone remains, but I have a copy of the inscription. I believe Williams parents were John JACKSON and Margaret nee ARMSTRONG both of Tanfield.
