Can't find anything for this family largely because of limited info. I do believe George's Death was sometime around 1902 but that is not for sure. Nor do I have his wife's first name just an est. dob in 1851. They had a son I know of, by the name William Petrie Dey who immigrated to Canada and married a Florence Agnes Scott (born 1901). William died in 1967. Please let me know if anyone has information regarding this family.
Thank you!

Hello - welcome to Rootschat,
Thanks to the info kerry printed below, I find on the official govt website www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk the following marriage. (it's also the only Dey/Petrie marriage in all of Scotland betwen 1866 and 1900 - if you don't put in christian names in the search box)
George Dey (crofter, Hillhead, Thomastown, Drumblade) aged 45, parents James Dey (agricultural labourer - deceased) and mother Ann Dey (maiden name ???) married:
Helen Petrie ( domestic servant) aged 25 parents, William Petrie (agricultural labourer) and Margaret Petrie (maiden name Collie), on 26th December 1882 in the Parish of Drumblade.
The above site is ppv. £6.00 buys 30 credits. This allows for the download of up to 5 bmds/census records (copies - not transcriptions). You have to make 3 posts before personal messages are allowed . To prevent spamming. When you've done that if you send me your e-mail address - I can if you wish, forward a copy of the marriage entry. It's not the best of copies.
Shall post part of the image to see if others can interpret
the maiden name of Ann Dey. I feel it begins with 'A', the 2 letters at the begining are the usual MS (Maiden Surname).
Regards, Steve .

IGI have mother down as AKIN. Six children show there born in Huntly including George's christening on 14 March 1830.
Monica :)

Hello
Further to the Monicas (inclines head in respect) input.
If we take into account that before 1900'ish, names were spelt variously and there was a a high degree of illiteracy.
The following children were possibly born to 'your' James Dey and his wife Ann/e
1. John Dey ch. 02 Apr 1815 Huntly , Abedeenshire
2. Isabel Dey ch. 13 Apr 1817, Huntly, Aberdeenshire
3. Margt Dey ch. 21 Mar 1819, Huntly, Aberdeenshire
4. James Dey ch. 16 June 1822, Huntly, Aberdeenshire
5. Alexr. Dey ch. 09 Mar May 1824,Huntly, Aberdeenshire
6. George Dey ch. 14 Mar 1830, Huntly, Aberdeenshire
Source www.familysearch.org.uk - all entries are 'extracted'. There is the birth of a William Dey attributed to your couple by a canadian submitter - address details on the IGI. b. 11 May 1827. The 'extracted record hads him born to a James Dey andd an Ann Elgin.
Looked for a marriage on both the IGI and Scotlands People - the only one with a James Dey/Day and an Ann/e - only brought up the one below (on the OPRs), which was anything near. The Canadian researcher appears to have accepted this as fact.

My pleasure. If you do a single word reply to this it'll give you the 3 posts - personal messaging can then be used and I can send you the 2 items previously described. Regards, Steve
A quick search of the IGI brings up a ch. on 15 Jan 1786 for an Ann Aiken, dau, of John Aiken and Elizabeth Middleton. You'd have to get her death entry to confirm.
Possible b/ch for George Dey. 07 July 1788 to John Dey and Margaret Watt at Cairnie, by Huntly, Aberdeenshire.
Can't find the deaths on SP. Either died before 1855 or I can't see them......

Hello
If you follow the link below which takes you to the National Library for Scotland - maps section
http://www.nls.uk/maps/os/6inch/index.html
Glick on the zoomable with Google overlay
make sure the left tab is used initially
Identify where Aberdeen is
Look for Huntly - which is to the NW of Aberdeen
Zoom in on Huntly by clicking until Thomastown appears to Huntlys south east
Click down on Thomastown until there are 3 bars left on the slider to the top left of the page.
Now click on the 'Historic' tab on the right of the page.
You are now in the area which George Dey and wife and wifes family lived.
Zoom down till on 2 bars are left on the slider - the map will change again - leave it on Historic view.
About 1 page to the SE of Thomastown you will find Hillhead of Thomastown where I think Thomas lived on marriage.
To the north of Thomastown you'll Newtongarry Hill and surrounding area swhere the Petries would have lived.
If you're unable to, I can save a screen capture whilst at work and forward it.
But that won't be for another 2 weeks.
Link to location of parish:
http://www.scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/search/index.php?page=4&p_type=PARISH&p_name=drumblade&id=734&p_county=aberdeenshire&cache_name=111parishdrumblade734
Type in Drumblade in the ‘Geograph’ website to get local images such as these.

Anyone else out there able to fill in census gaps? Thank you.
Regards, Steve

If you go to www.freecen.org.uk
change the tab to 1841 and enter census county and county of birth as Aberdeenshire and year of birth as 1830 You find a 12 year old George Day working as a farm labourer in the Parish of Glass which is a Parish but one to the west of Drumblade
Have attached a link which should give an overview
http://www.scotlandsfamily.com/county-map.htm
Also, the Vision of Britian website will give more info on the parish. Enter Drumblade in the search box - takes you to another page. There will also be a map there for you to zoom in and out and search as well as several stats boxes.

Regards, Steve
(Have had a look and cannot find any death entries for either James Dey or wife Ann Aiken in either the OPRs or post 1855 records. If anything they look to have died pre 1855).

Hi cdey!
James Dey & Ann Aikin from Huntly are my great x 3 grandparents - I descend from their son Alexander Dey born 1824.
In my tree I have your William Petrie Dey emigrating to Chauvin, Alberta. He visited Scotland in 1948 onboard the Queen Mary.
Happy to share the Dey family tree with you.
-
I'm from the William Dey (1827) line. I've seen the (parental) James Dey death in 1855 on the Scottish website (copyright) - with all the detail that that record shows, including names of parents, wife and names and ages of children, but even with this detail I can't get further back than that. Has anyone else more information?
-
I have an Isabella Petrie born 1760 on my family tree. She married James Wilson of Auchaber Huntley Aberdeenshire. They had a daughter Elizabeth.
