Title: Is there another Thomasine WORTH?
Post by: Tigsy on Friday 29 January 10 11:48 GMT (UK)
I am trying to locate details for a Thomasine Worth who married Francis Avent in Brixton, Devon in Nov 1673 - for a long time I thought it was Thomasine Worth who was baptised in Ermington, in 1640, but now I am not so sure as I think that Thomasine married in 1666 in Ermington.   If its the same Thomasine, she would have been quite old to start a family if she was married at 33 years old, especially as she would have been 45 when her last child was born.
I just can't find another alternative that it could be - can anyone help?

Her husband Francis Avent, I think came from Wembury as that is where generations later grew up.

You probably need to have Brixton PRs checked - these are not available online. The Devon Record Office may be able to help. http://www.devon.gov.uk/record_office.htm

I would have thought there would have been countless other Thomasine WORTHs - they are both common names in Devon.  Also, it would be almost impossible to find records at this time because of the Commonwealth and the civil unrest.  And even if a record did still exist it would be almost impossible to be sure it was the same Thomasine WORTH who married later in 1673.

Sorry to be a wet blanket but I think you should just congratulate yourself on getting back that far!  Most of us find it difficult to get back much beyond the end of the eighteenth century owing to the fragmentary nature of records any earlier.

Thomasine was the daughter of John Worth 1643-1689 & Thomasine Calmady.   She was m. to Thomas Worth, B.A. Exeter Coll. Oxford, Rector of Loxbear 1702, High Bickington.  M. 20 Feb 1706/07.  They were cousins.   There is a probated Will 27 Mar 1766 High Bickington on PROCATsite, PRO 11/917
