hi I am new ??? and I am looking for info on Stephen Joseph Land b 1860 norfolk, he seems to be an absconder, i have found this info on ancestry but as i am not a full prescriber i cannot get the full info ???.I would be grateful if anyone could help me.Thanks.

I think you'd be better starting your own thread with this query, because lopesy's question has been answered and his (or her) post will slowly slip down the list and off the radar! I suggest you choose a title like "Stephen J Land - absconder?", keep it in the Common room ie this board unless you know where he was from. In that case put it on the relevent county board. Put in some dates and a bit of detail if you know it.
I'm sorry I can't help with the reference - I don't subscribe to Ancestry either.

'STEPHEN JOSEPH LAND,MARRIED TO HARRIETT PHOEBE OXBOROUGH. THEY HAD THREE CHILDREN: STEPHEN JOSEPH,ROBERT SAMUEL AND WILLIAM JOHN. HARRIETT DIED IN 1893 FROM PNEUMONIA. 1901 CENSUS LISTS THE CHILDREN AS LIVING WITH THEIR GRANDFATHER WILLIAM LAND,AND HIS CHILDREN. Can I ask where on Ancestry you found this information, I managed to find his birth , marriage and census entries. Always learning and looking for new bits to explore :)

Just typed in his name and it was one of the options available. If it doesn't come up straight away click on bottom of 'Narrow by Category' menu Family Trees. This will show you other people researching Stephen Land - if the tree is a 'public' one you may view the information. If the tree is a 'private one' you need to email the person to gain access.

Many thanks to all that have helped especially Laurina, I too would love to know where he went I have been trying to find out what happened for ages, in answer to someone elses question I stumbled upon Stephen Land absconder while doing a search for Harriet Oxborough on Ancestry it came up as Public Memories, but as I am not a full member I couldn`t see the info :(

Hi I am new on here,just Googled above name because I am looking for him myself, he is my Grt Grandad,and no-one seems to know where he went,rumour has it he took his children to the Fair and ran away,and the children were brought up by there Grandfather and there Uncles. Robert Samuel Land is my Grandad.
What is your interest in him,have been looking for him forever it seems.

I too have been looking for ages, he was my grt grandfather also.
My grandfather was William Land.
Iwould love to find out what happened to him, where he went after that day at the fair, whether he assumed another name and had another family?.

Has your family had any other rumours of his disappearance,I have looked on Passenger lists,but cannot find anyone I think is him. Trawled through the BMD deaths. What else can you do? If he went to another country,I wonder where he would have gone.
Please keep in touch if you have any ideas.

Unfortunately, my dad never spoke of his family all he ever said was that his father was adopted,he didn`t know that his father was brought up by the grandfather, so I did not hear any rumours of what happened to our grt grandfather all the info I have is what I have found out myself.
I have also been through BMD numerous times to try and find Stephen.
It is a mystery! perhaps we will find out one day hopefully.
If I find out anymore I will let you know.
I was wondering how far back you have gone on the tree, I seem to have come to a standstill at about 1790s.

No I have not got very far,only know there grandfather WILLIAM LAND married a SUSANNAH DUFFIELD. William's dad was also a WILLIAM LAND, his mum was a MARY but not sure what her surname was.
I belong to Genes Reunited,so will try to find out more on there.
Do you have any photos of any LAND'S, I have one of my Grandfather Robert,and his brother Stephen. But not of any others. Could you e-mail any you have to me,or post them on here,I have not tried attaching anything on here yet.

Unfortunately I have no pictures not even of my dad when he was little, this was due to a very nasty disagreement dad had with his eldest brother after their parents died,it left my dad with nothing, which is why dad never spoke of his family. If you could put a picture of Robert on here that would be great as I would like to see if there is a family likeness to my dad.
Changing the subject slightly I was looking on my tree and wondered if you were the daughter of Daphne Josephine and Charles William Farley, if you are I think you may have contacted my sister on Genes Reunited last year.
Perhaps we could share info on our trees.

Yes I am the daughter of Charles & Daphne,what is your sister's name.
I will try and put photo of Robert on here at weekend,also I have photo of Stephen,Robert's brother.
Do you have access to Genes Reunited,I do not go on there as much as I used to. Have not updated tree for a while.
You seem to have as much trouble with your relatives as I do with my dads family,my dad lost contact with his family,and the consequences were we never met any of his relatives,and we have no photos of any.
LAND was my mum's maiden name.
She has one brother,STEPHEN LAND,and a sister Florence (Betty) ELIZABETH BARKS(LAND)
There dad was ROBERT SAMUEL LAND,there mum MARY ELWIN.
Robert had three brothers I know of:
CHARLES,WILLIAM & STEPHEN JOSEPH. Stephen married another Elwin sister,FLORENCE
There mum & dad were STEPHEN JOSEPH(absconder) & HARRIET PHOEBE OXBOROUGH.
Stephen had a brother WILLIAM & a sister SUSANNAH.
If you cannot go on Genes site,I can write up what I have in more detail later if you want and e-mail it to you.

I thought I had the right person!
Unfortunately I have not joined Genes Reunited, I`m just on Ancestry. My sister`s name is Patricia. Thanks for the detail on the tree I have most of it, but the few extra names are useful. The details I have are the same as yours, my grandfather was William John, Robert Samuel`s brother. William John married Daisy Chambers they had Daisy and Susannah they were twins unfortunately they died when they were babies, William, Ernest (my dad), Stephen and charles then we go down to the Absconder! and our grandfathers, then William Land married Susannah Duffield you have the names of their children, and after that we have William Land I don`t know who he married but I have a Joseph Duffield marrying a Sarah, that`s as far as I have got.
I could give you more detail on my dad`s brother`s and who the married etc.
Like you I could email them to you and you email me so we can compare our trees,but I do not know how to email through this site I will check it out.
