I sure could use some help on this one. I have chased every avenue I can think of from Australia. Friend is my 3xggrandfather and I have his marriage and death dates, census records, records of taverns where he was the publican and a lot of records about his family including those who came to South Australia. Despite all this I cannot find a birth record or his parents' names. I am positive he was related to John Fauchon b 1740 Wilmington - John's daughter Jane married John Bunyar, who became miller, Maidstone in 1811. Friend was a witness at that wedding and, in the 1841 census, Friend's son Henry was living with the Bunyars. Friend married Sarah Ann Roberts 30 Jul 1816 at St. Alphage Greenwich and died 1861 Camberwell. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

John and Susan FAUCHON were baptising children in Bearsted at the time but I cannot see a baptism for Friend. :-\
There is a Fauchons Lane in Bearsted today.
-
There are FAUCHONs in Allington, which is near Bearsted, but no baptism for Friend :(

Thank you for replying and this is the puzzle. I know my Fauchon is related to John and Susan but keep coming to the brick wall. Have also been down the Allington path - I'm beginning to think he changed his name!! John and Susan are the parents of Jane who married the miller and who had Friend's son living with them at the time of the 1841 census and Jane was born Bearstead - I thought I would have him there.
Grateful for any clues people can give me.

Have you tried the neighbouring parish of Thurnham?
-
Bearkat thank you for this tip - I haven't tried Thurnham because I didn't know of it but I will now and hope for the best
Emmalydia :)

There isn't much on the IGI for Thurnham - only 19th century female baptisms.
I don't think the parish baptisms have been transcribed yet.
Marriages are included in the Mid Kent Marriage Index

Have you found burials and headstone for John and Susan?
Some Kent monumental inscriptions can be very informative and list the couple's children.
-
There is a family tree on Ancestry which includes John Fauchon and his family going back generations and there is no Friend amongst them. I was thinking cousin but John seems to be the only surviving member of the children of his father William - the rest died as children.
I will keep looking at that family though as I know there is a connection.
Thanks again EL

I have also tried to research the Fauchons and found a John and Susannah/Susan having children in Northfleet where they married.
They had a John, James and Robert, Elizabeth, Sarah and Susannah in Northfleet. Have you these children born in the 1770's and 80's.
I have about 40 Fauchons, would you lijke me to send them to you? I am sure you already have more than I have, but you never know!!

Lis
Thanks - I do have all the John Fauchon family but perhaps you could send me the Fauchons you have - as you say you never know and I am really running out of options bar travelling across the world to Bearstead. I have tried the Maidstone FHS but haven't heard back yet.

Can you give us the census references for Friend & Sarah in 1851 & 1861?
-
I've found them in 1861 now. :)
He gives Bearsted as his place of birth. There is certaily a gap in the baptisms of John & Susan's children at the right time. They are the only FAUCHON family baptising children in Bearsted at that time It's possible the vicar forgot to record the baptism, Friend was baptised elsewhere or was baptised much later.
Before the census it is much harder to place children with their parents.
They are usually only mentioned in the following records:
baptism entry
will
monumental inscription of parents
settlement records
Did Friend leave a will mentioning neices & nephews?
Have you tried finding the marriages of all the other children to see if Friend was a witness? The fact that he was a witness at Jane's marriage certainly puts him in this family group and may be the only evidence you are going to find. :-\
-
Thank you for all this work you're doing. I have found Harriet's wedding and no mention but haven't found the others yet. I will try wills again but am also thinking he's fallen through the cracks somehow and is a member of John and Susan's family. It is very frustrating to be so close.

Message to lisingreece
Lis I made a mistake I thought I had all the children of John Fauchon but am missing Elizabeth. Could you please send me the details though now I have Northfleet I might find them myself. I just reread your message and noticed the extra name. In case you don't have them there is Jane b 1785, William b 1790 and Harriet b 1793 as well.
I have found a marriage for Elizabeth Fauchon to Henry Mitchell in 1803 and it was puzzling me too - so this would be her I think as Henry was the witness at two of the other Fauchon marriages and I thought this might lead me to my elusive Friend.

Bearkat I think I am replying to people wrongly and perhaps they aren't getting the messages - I have been doing a general reply at the bottom of the set of messages and think I should be clicking on the particular message and replying separately. Could you just let me know if that's correct.
I have found the other children's births on the Family Tree site I've been studying but thanks - I will look at the Northfleet site as now there is an Elizabeth to chase up as well.
You are most kind

Dear Lisingreece
Your message popped up just after I sent this. So thank you, you've given me the information I need to carry on now.

Dear all who have helped me
I now have nine children, 4 born from 1770 to 1776 and then a strange 5 year gap followed by 5 more from 1781 to 1793.
Perhaps I will find my Friend in the gap!
You have all been so helpful - what a great site this is.

Sorry you must all be sick of me by now but I had so many unconnected things that are coming together. In my notes I had John Fauchon Miller of Northfleet being made bankrupt London Gazette Jan 1777 and then it is mentioned again in Sept 1780. This coincides with the gap in the children - would he have gone to jail - I don't know much about bankruptcy in those days. You'll be glad to hear I'm going to be somewhere without a computer for 2 days from tonight.

Any reply to a thread will appear at the end. If you wish to reply to a particular point use the quote button as I have done here. :)
They took a dim view of bankruptcy in those days so John could well have been sent to a debtors prison. The gap in baptisms could be due to miscarriage/stillbirth or they could have moved to another parish.

There are 5 FAUCHON wills listed among the PCC wills on the National Archives Documentsonline website

They cost £3.50 to download.

Thank you for your ongoing interest and help Bearkat - I am getting such a good history of the Fauchons in Kent but I still can't prove the family link for Friend. I would kill for a will of John Fauchon, Miller! As far as I can work out John had no adult siblings so I'm not expecting a kind uncle to leave anything either. There are a couple of possibilities with the wills that I might follow up - I love the old wills anyway.

Hi everyone I hope your all safe . So I've just found this post today and realise it's old... but if anyone still doing this fuchion side pose help . I'm I've got a Sarah fauchion marrying isaac town in Kent..I'm truly dying to know more about the fauchoins ... I no the Christian name friend goes through generations so my Sarah and issac have a daughter susannah who marries William cromarty they themselves have a child called friend, they also have a daughter called harriet who marry a William's and they have a son called .. yep you guessed friend isaac William's. Welcome to this thread about the Fauchon family.
Hopefully Emmalydia will receive notification of your post and will reply.
Things have moved on in the world of genealogical research since this thread was first started but I still can't find a baptism for Friend :(
I would kill for a will of John Fauchon, Miller!
The will of John Fauchon, farmer, of St Margarets dated 1801 lists his children (presumably in age order) as Robert, Sarah, Elizabeth, John, James, Susannah, Jane, Friend, William & Harriot. The only baptism not found is Friend's.

Hi barakat and wow didn't think this would get picked up , yes searching for ancesty has definitely moved on when I started it was record offices and fiche.. good old days . So fauchion proving a mystery and more annoying I live a hour down the road in bexhill and cant even jump in motor to go across the border, my search starts with Thomas William palmer g grandfather his parents , Robert palmer and Eliza susannah cromarty from that generation the name freind runs all they way back to fauchion that's where it starts .. however isaac town married Sarah fauchion and there are two isaac Towne almost identical in time line number 1 is a issac hatch town , parents seem to be Philip town and Elizabeth hatch . Number 2 and really is ... a number 2 .. and a isaac town parents Thomas town and Elizabeth , still isaac married Sarah fuchoin but on this record , John 1795, William, 1797, susannah ( Sophia) 1800 to 1875, Jane fauchion 1805, Robert,1807, friend 1810, Eliza 1813, now I've also seen a freind isaac William MBE who come of harriet cromarty so need to do alot more digging .. however if I go on my DNA matches on ancestry I have all the above surnames with matches so get your head round d that lol
