I have located two 'possible' relatives in the censuses but I have no way of knowing if they are the right people without seeing their marriage records (for father's name). I was wondering if someone with a marriage index could check to see if the following couples are included - so that next time I make a trip to the Notts Archives I can check the full records.
George HALL & Elizabeth BUTTERY or SOUTHERN, married Jun qtr. 1847, Newark
William HALL & Sarah Moore CAUNT, married Dec qtr. 1855, Bingham
Unfortunately I don't know what parishes they would be in so any help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Alexander

Thanks Ruby, that's another one to add to the list of possibilities....I have a feeling that he was the one on freebmd in 1847, but since there are 2 Elizabeths on the same page it's hard to tell.

Hi Alexander

Thank you Carol. William's father was Robert, and he was from Southwell, so it all fits. The only strange bit is that Robert was recorded as a tallow chandler. In the 1851 & 61 censuses, Robert is recorded as a farm labourer & general labourer.
Thanks
Alexander
