Title: Birth Mary White a common name!
Post by: juddee on Monday 25 January 10 20:50 GMT (UK)
Would someone be kind enough to look at a record for me?
I found information on a Mary White who was born in 1837 in the sub district of St Thomas which I think is a parish ??? in Liverpool.
According to Mary's marriage certificate here in Oz her mother was Catherine Hartnett and father Edward White and her birthplace is listed as Liverpool. As is the way with common names this family has been a constant frustration trying to find any records of the exact family but I just keep plugging away. :(

Thanks in advance

Hi

I notice you got the info from the LancashireBMD website

Members of the public do not have access to full birth records at the records office but you can apply for the certificate via that website and put a condition on your application that you only want it if parents were Edward & Catherine

If it is the wrong entry - you will not be charged

However - if you apply online via the GRO using the same condition - you will be charged a £3 fee for a failed search

Go to www.lancashirebmd.org.uk and turn up the marriage entry

Click on the reference number in the right hand corner

Do the same on the next screen

You can then print off the application form

Hi Juddee

I've got Mary's death certificate where her birthplace is listed as Cork, Ireland. The informant on the certificate was her daughter Sophia Gerrett.

I suspect that it was Mary was born in Liverpool and it was her mother Catherine Hartnett who was from Ireland. Mary's birthplace is listed as Liverpool on her two marriage certificates and Sophia's birth certificate.

I don't have any other information about her parents though other than what you have already so can't help with much else.

cheers

Found these 2 on FreeBDM:

Sept Qtr 1837

White Mary, Liverpool 20 182
White Mary, West Derby 20 466

Hi,

Have you got them on the census? I can't see any in 1841 in Lancashire that it if Mary was born in Liverpool in 1837.

The 1841 has no link to an Edward White and the only one I can find with a Catherine was b Ireland and was Mary Ann aged 5
