Could someone inform me whether Rye Parish records are available to buy on CD or in Microfiche form like the KFHS do?
-
Hi
Doesn't look like they are currently from SFHG

Although Rye now in E. Sussex - pre-boundary changes it was in Kent one of the Cinque Ports.
Try Kent FHS

OOOhhh-er, here's where I disagree! Cinque (Five) Ports plus two Ancient Towns - Rye and Winchelsea. But Rye has NEVER been part of Kent. The boundary is very close, but the town is Sussex to the core.
-
I am not talking about any recent boundary changes
I beliene that when the Cinque Ports were created both Rye & Winchelsea were in Kent, yes the border is so close you could miss it & you criss cross over when driving around the area.

So that's a no then ha ha ???

Thank you. I know what's at all the record offices etc having been there a few times but wish to look them up from the comfort of my own home like I do with all the other towns and villages which appear in my tree.
I am not returning to Rye until may and wish to build up a list of all the properties I wish to photograph and so on but wish to fill in any missing children from many lines to have a full family tree.
Thanks anyway

The other option is to join the Sussex Family History Group which gives you access to their online records which include Rye.

Thank you so very very much, just the answer I wanted, thank you. will look now.

Glad to be able to help. The baptism database that SFHG have really makes the sub worth every penny. They are currently adding burials as well.

Even better, and seeing as Subs are due in January I shall get a whole year

Hi Kerry and Everyone Just to clarify SFHG has Rye Parish records on line . Will this cover the 1730's in Rye at St. Mary's. This my brick wall Philip Clark b. approx 1733. Thank you for all I have learned reading the posts. LizR

Hi Suzannah
This is a rather old thread, I know, but I too am interested in consulting the Rye parish records - but would like to see the written version (original, or scan) rather than a transcript, as I suspect the name of one of my ancestors has been mistranscribed in the IGI.
What form were the records in on the SFHG site?
I am trying to see if it's worth joining, or whether I should make a trip to Lewes.
Hope you found what you were looking for!

Hi Angela
Beng honest I never got round to it. You have reminded me to have another look at this line but I went off on another branch after finding something interesting.
Sorry for not being able to help
Good luck

Do you know what, Suzannah? As soon as I had posted that, I thought "Hell, it's only £11, and a trip to Lewes would cost a lot more than that, so it's worth a try!"
They sent the username and password immediately, so I was on their site in minutes.
They are transcripts, so it hasn't helped with the name that I think might be mistaken. But there's so much info on line that it's very useful in piecing together other families with the same name so that I can confirm or disprove any connection.
BUT there is a gap in the births index between 1799 and 1812, which is just the point where I could see the next generation's connections. I'm just about to email them to see if the originals exist or not. Also, I couldn't find any Marriage records, although the main list implies there are some. Maybe they're still working on them.
Wish my broadband wasn't on "go slow" at the moment; it's very frustrating w-a-i-t-i-n-g for pages to load.
Happy hunting!
